Special effects outsourcing grows in India

Nah, that sort of overgeneralizing gets innocent people killed. Dont buy into it man, dont let them rule your head.

Not a big fan of American culture myself- (except perhaps movies and bagels) - but I can guarantee that if America ‘falls’ as you put it- your just gonna end up with another - history shows the next bully steps up to claim the throne and the little people keep on being little.

I think its fair to say most 3D entertainment jobs source their money in part of wholly from the USA.

Doesn’t America already kill alot of innocent people invading and bombing a country they have no right to be in just to take their oil.
America has run out of oil, where will they get it now. Oil is control over the rest of the world. Why leave it to some 3rd world country to have and gain from it.

But lets keep things on topic lol

well before the thread is locked i must chime in with my favorite thing to say. “it doesn’t matter!!”
all life, all countries, the world, the sun, our galaxy etc will all end, who cares.

Yep. Were all made of stars dude. All made of stars.

Back to outsourcing.

So has anyone here had positive experience outsourcing to india, china, malasia etc etc.

I know one company that did get some results from using outsourcing to create VARIANTs on existing assets. But it did take a lot of effort.

Any good experiences out there?

I worked for a small company that was developing web applications and 3D animations. I was their lead artist. They tired outsourcing both web work and art work to a company in India. All of the 3D stuff we got back was sub-par, and we had to scrap it and do it all ourselves. The web stuff was also questionable, but we continued outsourcing to them for that.

Bear in mind that’s just one company, it can’t possibly be a reflection of an entire country or way of doing business. This is just my limited personal experience.

My boss would wake up and be at the office at some ungodly hour in the morning to have conference calls with the good folks in India. Anything to save a buck

My opinion is that no matter what country you live in, as long as you do great work, you can meet deadlines, and your prices are reasonable you have nothing to be worried about. If having competitive prices doesn’t allow you to pay the rent, then you probably live in an excessively expensive area. That’s one of the major problems in the US - most of the hotbeds for 3D work are relatively expensive areas to live (LA, NYC, San Francisco, etc). That drives up our prices. Americans need to pack up and move to Wyoming or Kansas so we can afford to work for less.
