And a small critiqueā¦
I wonder about the guy with the helmet⦠the metal helmet appears very thin and form fitting.
Awesome work overall.

cajā¦u on the internet? and posting on a forum?
wow! now thats a miracle all u need now is to get a website address and a voice mail and you will be so 21st century.
u kick butt!!
man thatās so true.
Your stuff is awesome! Iām wondering, is your Gnomon BTS DVD a real step by step instructional video of the whole character modeling process from start to finish, or is it more of a ālook what I can do, folksā overview of the project?
Itās an overview. Not a instructional dvd on Maya or Zbrush⦠the dvd overviews the process of production, and assumes you know the tools.
Superb !!!
amazing works ā¦
thanks for sharing !

Hey guys,
thnx for all the awesome support and the bump to top row, greatly appreciated. In regards to the croc questions, yess it was done for Primeval and it was a pain staking task. The modeling and sculpt was only a part of the battle, texturing and rendering was the harder part in my opinion.
It was a tag team between Ben Neall and I. After the model was completed ( loops were very important since it had to deform correctly) and sent off the be rigged, I decided early in that we didnt want the scales to feel derived from a series of alphas so I made one scale alpha and begun drawing out scale accross te entire body using lots of reference ( didnt matter how small).
After laying out the scale sizes and direction, I then went in and made sure they felt right keeping in mind that this would have to be displaced and rendered (some areas are slighty exagerated in the sculpt). After the sclupt was completed, Ben began the daunting task of reproducing what I did with the bump map. So using the ztl he hand traced all the scales and combined with a cavity map and lots of painting in photoshop it was then back and forth between test renders. The end result was the render you see done in mental ray. FYI, this render doesnt do justice to his textured version which heāll post soon.
to mxhaunted : the final poly count was around 4 million and at the time I had 4gigs of ram
to zerodan : you are right I was suppose to go back and add another layer (padding) undernath the helmet.
to mindjuicer : youāre so sad, leave the guy alone
to miggs : good times dude, and yess i have voicemail now.
to Derek Frenzo: actually it is a lil bit of both. The main emphasis of the behind the scenes DVDs is to show the creation proccess from start to end in a production environment. So its isnt fully intructural in the scence that all the tools in maya and zbrush is explained (that would take alot more than one dvd) but with basic understanding following should not be a problem at all. I start with going over basic tools I used frequently and then to proxy modeling and setup and then I end with the zscult. And theres everything inbetween.
Excellent!
Excellent work! That crocodile is just amazing. āI made one scale alpha and begun drawing out scale accross te entire body using lots of referenceā , such patience, five stars from me.
I would pay $200 for the croc vid.
