Some questions about model prep for CNC milling

Im also looking into the roland mdx 40 .

There are deals out there if you look on 2nd hand rolands & the 4th axis almost new and much better if you are in the USA.Also do lease their machines or the jewellery ones.

cnczone is a good place to advertise if you wish to buy 2nd hand !
Good deals.

I have had a ring protowaxed i made and i went from decimate to the .stl plugin.

I managed to get from the wax firm the total size in mb that the wax machine can take as the test ring was 18.mb .

They came back with no limitations so im upping my models sizes to where the decimation is not noticeable at all and thats about 100 mb .
Most 3d plugins all take stl files so you can resize correctly afterwards and then send to print or cnc machine.

Will be looking to set up my production some time next year.
Will keep a eye on this thread .
Good luck.

Thx for the link, Darran.

Unfortunately I´m in Europe, so it could be a bit harder to find a used one.

Sort of afraid to import a used one, could end up being more trouble than I spending on a new one directly from a Roland distributor.

Since I´m planning on Injection molding I´m also considering producing masters in ready to mold pieces at one of the 3d print services like Ownage or similar.

That may be the most economic way to go, we´ll see.

I´ll look into leasing as another possibility.

Another question related to casting with resins.

Are there any health dangers when cold-casting? It seems logical that there´ll be vapors and gases when working with molten plastics, but is the same true for cold cast materials mixed from two components? (Polystone, for example?)

You should be able to get the MSDS for anything you’re going to be working with.

Ok, already found the MSDS, Smooth On has them directly on the product pages

Let the journey begin
