i’ve started on his new gun.
here’s a pict of where i’m at atm.
think there will be som hoses from the little holsters on the top and from the shaft, connecting to his armor somehow.

nice work! very good job on the alien anatomy, it looks amazing. I have a couple critiques though. But let me say, i am really impressed.
First critique is the color, the orange doesnt really suit him i think. Was there a particular reason you chose orange? right now it sort of looks like he was out in the sun a little too long without sunscreen. Maybe if you have a moment in photoshop give the hue slider a spin in hue/saturation and see what he looks like… check it out!

second critique is the gun. Its a good gun, has that retro space cartoon look. The problem is not the gun so much as the anatomy of the creature holding it.
he has three fingers yet the gun is a standard butt/trigger design, i think he would have trouble holding it. maybe if you squeezed in the part of the butt right behind the trigger so he could hold it a bit easier.
otherwise i am truly inspired.
keep up the good work.
maybe if you added a wrist strap or wrist extension to the gun? then he could kind of ‘whip-it’ to is hand to shoot. or…add a ring-type deal to the handle to put the snailien’s bottom finger through it that way the trigger ring and handle ring could secure the gun for better aim/shootin’. 
the green skin render looks cool…but, you’re right…they both look cool. difficult decision…but, i’d go w/ the green skin.
are you going to put him a scene in the end? i can picture this in a really cool scene…just like you’re saying…that retro-sci-fi look…like you got goin’ with the gun. maybe even a retro comic book cover presentation.
