So I’ve hit a stone
Started working on a female head and it is so much harder for me than a male head…
Any help or critiques on this one will be appreciated
Thanks for stopping by
Hey everybody. I just finished working on a creature. It was done in Zbrush and polypainted all of it in zbrush as well which was a lots of fun. Retopologized in max and this is just the lowpoly version which is almost 9000 tris. Viewed with 3poiint realtime shader in max .
Concept belongs to the great Greg Broadmore- here is the concept :

very cool but very ugle lol nice poly painting job and you ask about the girl face you needed advice well i had the same problem as you for a long time untel someone told me about the [golden ratio mask] it was a life saver now i can almost make the perfect female face
try not to put hair on the female face untel you see she looks great
and for the female face try to make the eye brows smaller and the bottom lip has to be more buffy the hole eyes need you come down .thares alot more to add but i will leve it up to the golden ratio mask just type it in google or youtube but for male faces you are very skilled keep it up
i there is one thing i would like to ask. how do you retopo in max is there a plugin you need because when i try it there is like 20000 polys i cant work with that any help would be nice thanks
Thanks for the help man, I will look it up.
For the retopolgy in max i just bring my decimated version of the tool to max and i go to the new graphite tools (available from 2010 up i think) and go to freeform tab and pick POLYDRAW and i start drawing the new topology on top of my decimated mesh and the polygons snap to the surface of it.
Let me know if you need more details on the process
thanks for the help but do you have to destroy all of the details you add in zbrush just to do a simple retopology that would be to bad if so. And are you sure its not in 3DsMax 2009 iv’e bean useing 3dsmax for almost 3 years and i would hate to see it not become part of my pipeline:(
and is there anyway to get rid of the jags in 3dsmax when opening high poly models?
andy help would be nice
Well this above is a game resolution model ( approximately 9000 tris and the hugh poly is near 8 mil tris) + it has normal map baked and applied on it. This lets you keep all the detail.
Unfortunately I am not sure about max 2009 as I dont have it installed now.
well thanks for the help. i will be sure to take a look at this tread sometimes see whats new good luck
I just finished new female bust study and i feel like this is a small improvement
Starting another one next.

](http://%3Cfont%20color=%22#9a9a9a%22%3E[ATT=270609)Yeah, you did a much better job on the female face with the last one. It’s cool to see how you improved and problem solved your way to the right forms. Keep improving like that and you’ll be a master of us all!
Thanks tobbeo. What helped me most this time were images i found online with the planes of the female face. I am not sure if I am going to texture this one or start new one first … perhaps full body
very nice i can see that you are inproveing i like the way you made the lips
the hair was very well done do you mind me asking what brushs did you use for the hair ?
by the way did you use zshpres to model the face or use a base mesh in 3dsmax ?
and the face looks like some one i saw in a movie or something and way keep it up
real life detail is just the begining
Thanks 3D-User. I used clay tubes, slash 2 and damian standard brush for the hair.
Here is a new female head study - I might use this one for a full body character
very nice stuff… looking forward to your next updates.!!
wow you are getting better and better every time i look back at this tread keep up the good
by the way are you still getting that botton erorr ?
I started working on a new character- Michonne from The Walking Dead.
Fantastic work chap, you’ve really done a great job on her.
Its very hard to crit mate but as your posting here Ill try to find something you can maybe take a closer look at. This might take me some time and a microscope Back later.
[Edit]
Right only things I can see and they might be down to her personal physique rather than your sculpting are the Flatness of the top of the Bicept Brachii and the transition from the origin of the Pectorialis minor into the Brachii, the PM also looks to be a little low which might be the issue, but either way its tiny tiny tiny amounts and might be down to lighting rather than the sculpt. There’s something a little weak phytsically about the pubic area too imo, maybe the Abductor Longus or the general shallowness from thigh to pubis.
Feel free to ignore those crits as Im really just reaching to try to find something and its a truly fantastic piece of work mate.
Hey Adam. Thanks for stopping by and for the critiques.
Totally agree about the pubic area and I will try to fix that.
About the biceps point you are probably right here too (to be honest I never really payed much attention to the Pectorialis minor as to my understanding is underlying muscle and on females because of breasts, it only shows when arms extended and raised to a maximum…) however that made me think and i went back and looked at some more reference and it looks like I could really add some more definition to the overlapping part of the Pectoralis Major and the biceps but then again … this does not show on most not super lean females…
Really appreciate the time you took to help man. This is exactly the kind of a sharp eye I need when posting for feedback here and on other forums.
Always a pleasure mate.
You could be right, it might be the curve of the Major back down into the arm/deltoid, mnaybe needs to be just a little more ‘sympathetic’ (clutching for words here ), to the flow of the outer arm and deltoid. But to my eye it looks like this might be partly due to the armpit area being just a little shallow which seems to come from the relatively low cut.
Throw your refs up mate or stick them on FB for more specific suggestions.
Keep up the amazing work.
So hows the tiny adjustment ooming along? Drop some other materials on this time so we can compare and contrast for more accuracy k.
