Really great work man, love the polypaint on this!

Excellent piece dude!!!

That polypaint turned out great, really nice colours! Colours remind me of the Warhammer Creatures, really nice work mate:+1:

cool model and polypaint

I have to ask how you got the chitin on its back so well I can never get it as good overlapping eachother like you have it waht alpa or tools did you use.

This is look cool! keep going!

Thanks guys.

voodoodad: Haha that is funny! Me neither!

Whew… the scales on the back were kinda tedious. As you can see the scales sorta fuse into the body so I couldn’t keep them separate meshes. I did a few tests and I found a pretty good way. I made the underlying body with Dynamesh first. Then I sculpted one scale as a separate subtool about 3/4ths of the way done. Then duplicated/positioned each of them down the body. I changed their shape to the concept as I went. When I was sure I couldn’t do anymore tweaking I merged the scales one-by-one with into the Dynamesh body. I found if you Dynamesh them all at once they start to weld together at the seams and a bunch of holes were formed.

Then I went back and added unique detail to each of them . I had to set the Dynamesh rez pretty high to get a nice edge where the scales meet the body and make sure they didn’t weld to other scales. I think my 1st subD level is like 1.5 mill!

Thank you that was very enlightening ill test it out today on a model today to see how well it will turn out.

Some PP on the legs. I am… not sure how I feel about them. The concept wasn’t totally fleshed out in this area so I am winging it.

So I did a little paintover making the area where they connect to the body darker and adding some more purple to the legs.

My concern with this one is that it creates a big separation where the legs connect. I sorta like the way the other one more seamlessly transitions into the legs. What do you guys think?

I love this guy! so awesome. Nice work man. :+1:

Dude this is legimatley what I would imagine a new tyranid for a short story would be a new tyranid from Hive Fleet Levithan for tyranids in 40,000. The best refrence I can give you that will beat them all is the main website

The new models have a 360 rotation you can use to get the best refrences from for the legs

CosmicFig: Thanks for you comments man. That means alot. I really like the work you have been posting.

Aliasofall: Wow that… is an awesome reference for this! This is really helpful. Thanks so much. I can’t believe I you didn’t show me this earlier!

I wonder if there is a way I can capture these flash files… hmmm…

Ohh there all pics you can just clik and save the pics

I can just concur with Aliasofall!
The polypaint is just looking great man! Looking forward to the beauty render :):+1:

Thanks guys. It’s been a while without updates on the Tyranid cause I moved to North Carolina. I did manage to do a couple things tho.

A bug for an art test:

Fantastic criket just dont send it to chirp near my house or i might have to squish it.

This is really cool! I’ll def check out that plugin too.

Haha thanks guys. You can go ahead and squash it.

Not dead!
Just in a different state…

Here is the low mesh with normals. It’s about 15.5k tris. A little high… but sorta had to with all the spikes. I got a little clean up to do around the teeth but over-all it was a very clean bake. I was sorta surprised. I expected all those spikes and folds to wreck havoc. All those spikes took FOREVER to retopo too. I don’t want to make another spikey thing for a while…

Even if its a little high nice it still looks nice retopologized
