Ah lol i was wondering why they would do a thing like that
maybe because 2.0 isnt even in beta stage, and thus, isnt close to being finished? they just wanted to get the core stuff done for the preview at siggy. im sure the beta testers will bug them to support wacom tablets, and have a displayable radius for the brush. i know ill bug em about it, umongst other things.
They assured us in the forums there will be much more control than we’re seeing here. And if by some fluke it’s not handled in 2.0, expect 2.1 to address it. But, yes. We are looking at pre-beta functionality, with only “2005” as a hint at it’s eventual release date.
Silo 2.0 is a free upgrade for people who’ve bought after a certain cutoff date, which I don’t feel like looking up right at this moment but it should be right there on the front of their homepage if you can be bothered to look. They have not announced what the upgrade price will be, except to state that it will be significantly less than the cost of a new license.
Likewise, their website seems to hint that the price of Silo will be increasing with 2.0’s release, but no information is given as to the new cost.
Free upgrate to Silo 2.0 for all current owners and people who buy 1.4 right now.
hi mtb,
I read their site today and it’s free to those who bought 1.4 after I think but don’t quote me…july 10 or 1st.
However the upgrade will be as promised…far less than the ridiculously low asking full price so who cares?
Go with whichever you can find evidence to support.
The homepage says "Purchase Silo 1.4 now and receive a free upgrade to Silo 2.0 when it becomes available. Save money and buy now!"
It does not say “All users of Silo since the dawn of time will receive a free upgrade to the new version!”
The free upgrade obviously applies to anyone who purchases now, and it could be argued that it also logically applies to anyone who purchased on or after the date when Silo hit v1.4, but there’s nothing in that wording which contradicts the forum administrator’s statement that there would be an upgrade fee applied to someone.
The general concensus seems to be that July was the cutoff date. I don’t see anything from an official source stating this, so I’m guessing it was a verbal announcement at Siggraph. Keep your eyes peeled.
There is much discussion on the Silo forums of how much the upgrade will cost, and no admins stepping in to say “Silly users, it’s free forever!” They do step in to say “It will be significantly lower than full price”, however.
…but, yeah. It’s the "Save money and buy now!" line which has me intrigued. Those words only make sense if Silo’s $109 pricetag is going away soon…
Zmapper is going to be quite cool. I can see that being one of the best updates to Z2 yet, IMO. Since it’s something I’m probably going to be using day in and day out.
A question about the micro-poly modeling. Is this Real-Time as opposed to working in PM to get this details? Not a big concern really, I’m just a little curious to know what you mean by real-time.
Thanks for the updates Aurick!
