Red Skull WIP

I think every culture has a dark period, or moment in history that they would prefer to forget. No doubt, many Germans are incensed at seeing a swastika and don’t want to be reminded of what it once stood for. That is completely understandable.
However, I can also understand another viewpoint. It’s even more painful for those who actually suffered under Hitler’s regime.
For those people, it’s extremely important to never forget what took place. Maybe, only then can they hope to prevent it from ever happening again.
People can get offended by this artwork for all kinds of reasons if they really want to. But, it’s obvious that the artist simply meant to make a good piece of art. I would prefer to judge it simply on those terms myself.

Cool sculpt! I like the pose with the eyes barely lit. He really looks like he’s going to shoot me, but in a calm evil way like there’s nothing I can do about it! :o

looks pretty cool
i love the head’s turnaround

hopefully he’ll be textured

Bladeflush i like youre work and especially most of the marvel characters.
Great work !!!

Thanks for the comments everyone. Here is where I’m at right now which is pretty much finished. I’ve included some my wire images and an images minus the background as well. I used Zbrush, 3D max, and Photoshop for compositing. On a side note I’ve noticed some people don’t like this image understandably b/c of all the swastikas. I was trying to stick to the character as accurately as I could.

Not sure if the texture on the jacket is too glossy, stretching in some areas, or not fine enough, but overall, this looks fantastic! Love the background, and coloring.

Since when is a villain supposed to be likable?
You nailed him. The only part I think you could improve upon is the bullet hole in the metal helmet. I think the hole would be dented in more and the blood could be better. That’s it. (And his face could be a smidge redder.)

great sculpt… fantastic work…

on the swastika issue, can I just add that before the nazis borrowed the symbol it was originally a symbol of peace… lets not get too excited about an icon, just because its used dosent mean its supported in the nazi sense…

Love it!!
You could use some more folds on the suit and a different tie color maybe.
Overall, great sculpt!

HAHA!.. Smoking gun… Cap’s old shield and helmet on the back wall with a bullet hole in it. Very nice sculpt. Love the narrative.

Thx for the comments everyone. Here’s a higher res

Hi! Uhps, was offline 3 weeks…

One of the best artworks I´ve seen in the last weeks. Excellent.

I hate to get into this controversy, but I just have to ask what your problem is with the Nazi emblems, hell666, Dali.P.

For most of us germans the Nazi-emblems are implicating very negative feelings. It´s our history. And all these symbols are forbidden here in germany.

I am criminal now. I have nazi-symbols on my mac.

Nice work, dude.

Totally love it!! Great concept of RedSkull and the render is superb.

And even that I´m German too, I have no prob with the use of Nazi stuff in such a context. It´s comic art and anyway never meant serious. It just looks soooo wicked and that why it works.

Again, thumbs up for the great work. :+1:

Looks awesome! But I would loose or tone down the channel offset, it is really hard on the eyes.

Aside from the channel offset and levels and saturation adjustments in Photoshop here is the composite breakdown

that’s a amazing and beautiful work. The Character looks very awesome.
In my opinion its a masterpiece :+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1: :+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

while i do like the final image, the focus is off and therefore gives me a headache within a short period of time
the main figure should be in focus, but is slightly out of focus

I agree with this comment completely, was about to say this until I noticed you beat me to it Derek. It’s funny coz I just watched Inglorious basterds, so for those who are frustrated to see this, when u watch movies which portray Nazis (and either way when they do they villify them anyway, it’s the whole concept of ‘never again’ so we shouldn’t forget), does it frustrate you? when u say the symbol is forbidden does it mean movies which portray Nazis and swastikas are disallowed in German cinemas?

Either way, I respect everyone’s feelings but I think we should judge this as an artpiece for what it is only. And in art we should have freedom, that’s what art is about, unless of course it glorified evil or is racist/offensive which I don’t believe this is, if anything it associates Nazism with evil and villifies it, like movies.

Great job bladeflush, excellent model and render, but I agree slightly about the camera focus!

Awww, poor Germany. They get offended seeing Nazi symbols???
Tell that to the families of the Jews, Gypsies, Gays, Artists, Politicians, and everyone else who was killed for opposing them and see if they have any sympathy for you. That is the stigma and burden that Germans will always carry with them, and rightfully so. Do they want people to ignore it and act as though it never happened? They saw the trains full of people. They saw the slums being cleared and windows being smashed, and they smelled the bodies being cremated. They ignored it.
Red Skull is a villain. He is a Nazi. Deal with it.
