With respect Aurick, I hope to not create further trouble but I feel it is worthwhile to suggest, by way of an attempt at constructive criticism, that - gabriel86, it was not so much your opinion that I and zalkore (and I’m sure others) found offensive, but rather the apparent attitude with which you shared it. Perhaps we misinterpreted, but even in reading your posts again with an eye to that possibility they still come off as rude in my opinion. I submit therefore that it would be worthwhile to put some more thought into how you offer your criticisms, so that they might not offend and therefore stand a chance at actually having a constructive effect.

Good work!

I always thought that you had put a fresh spin on an other wise ridiculous topic and made it believable.

I would recommend ignoring the the insecure folk whom wish to lash out. :+1: :+1: Art is as unique as its creator … who have we become that we feel the need to judge one another. my best. J

If you said any of those things while giving a critique in a professional studio environment, you’d be out of there in no time.

It’s fine if you want to give a person constructive negative feedback.
Just learn how to do it without sounding like a total ass.

Adam - Nice work man - love the turntable of him in the gallery. Keep it up! :+1:

While the comments that sparked the debate were too agressive in delivery (at least to be absorbed in any constructive way), everyone has a right to say whats on their mind, especially when you put up a piece for criticism. That being said i do have the feeling the writer was having a bad day and went too far in the delivery.

While on topic, here’s some properly delivered criticism : From the first time i saw this piece, i liked the proportions and look, but one thing bothered me when i found out it was a TMNT. He’s supposed to be a Teenager, and i think this piece was weakened by forgetting that.

For example, how many teenagers do you see smoking a cigar? And his body proportions, while cool, communicate more ā€œveteranā€ than teenager. This guy looks like he has war stories from 'Nam. Maybe this can be more of a TMNTs ā€œWhere are they nowā€ kinda piece.

Of course it’s a lousy time to make this comment, when it’s basically finished. But to the artist i would suggest to remember the message next time. You had 4 things to communicate, Teenage, Mutant, Ninja, Turtle. I think you did well in other parts but lost Teenage somewhere down the line.

Ha, that’s awesome. Love the style.

Wonderful take on the character :+1: :+1:

I’d say making a movie would be pushing the envelope a bit too far but I do like the essential idea of creating a new vision of what a real TMNT would look like, even tho certain aspects of this one are radically different.

You sir, have a good cup full of imagination !

And as for Gabriele… Let’s see what you can do first before providing non constructive feedback…

Personally, I love it.

Does it have to stay tragically loyal the source material? No. It’s just one artist’s reinterpretation of a familiar concept. Cartoony versions of the turtles have been done before. This has not. It’s grim, gritty, and oddly true to the spirit of the old B&W comics. This is a tough as nails mutant ninja turtle. It may not be 4-color, but it maintains that hard edge that’s not found in the watered down cartoons and films.

I don’t even see the whole cigar thing as a betrayal of the concept. ā€œTeenageā€ implies that they might one day grow up. This version might be older. Labeling the thread with TMNT only suggests a direction and not a spec. It’s a nice extension of an already proven concept.

I may not agree with gabriel86’s approach or even his opinion, but I defend his right to express it. Now, if he truly feels that this effort is so greatly ill conceived, I’m sure that we all would invite him to show us how it’s really done.

hey 1st of all , i still love the model, its great. i wanted to add to the teenage/ cigar discussion. i was smoking cigars in my teens, which obviously is not a good idea, but even tho he does look like an older more mature version of the cartoon… just maybe hes the badass in the group of teens that doesnt care bout his health? lol… either way, its my opinion that it only adds to the image- making it better ! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m a huge fan of the TMNT comics. But i never liked the cartoon from 87 it was too silly. The model is awesome, love the realistic look and using the read skin color at the ear base is perfect replacement for his mask. and the cigar gives him his badass look Raph has.:stuck_out_tongue:
I dont see why it should be a issue that hes not ā€œteenageā€ like:roll_eyes: I mean the turtles are adults now in the comic and there is many stories about the turtles in their older age.
It would be awesome see a group picture off all four Turtles:D

This is sweeet!! good job, really nice detail.
