Quick ZSphere question

Yeah, this is fiddly. This is what I discovered: if you highlight the zsphere the attractor is attached to, by Ctrl+clicking or clicking in Move mode, then the lines will appear. To change the attractor zsphere back to an ordinary zsphere, Alt+click within the lines on the zsphere it’s attached to - towards the edge of the zsphere, not near the center. Make sure the cursor is not a red circle or you will delete the zsphere. (The cursor will change to a red circle when near the center of the zsphere.)

There are certainly some display and selection issues with attractor zspheres but I found this method worked consistently for me.

I’ve asked this before but havent gotten a definite solution, when rotation zspheres, especially along their axis they spin way too fast and too many times, in z2 they rotated slowly, i can’t even control them now, is there a key to hold to slow that down or something?

spaceboy412,
It seems to me that there are some issues with zspheres and that this is one that I haven’t found a solution for.

Here is a helper zscript for zsphere rotation. Note that it is not a plugin and shouldn’t be installed as one; load it when you need it using the ZScript menu Load button.

The zscript buttons will appear in the Tutorial window at the bottom of the ZBrush UI. There are three buttons and a slider:

  • Rotate Back button, hotkey J
  • Rotate Forward button hotkey K
  • Degrees slider for setting the degrees increment
  • Zero button for setting the twist to zero

How it works:

  1. While in Move, Scale or Rotate modes, click on a ZSphere to select it.

  2. Press the button or use the hotkey to adjust the twist. Press repeatedly as necessary. You can move your model to check the adjustment and continuing rotating if you wish.

  3. To select a different ZSphere, click before using the hotkey/button. Adjust the slider to change the increment.

  4. Pressing the Zero button will set the selected ZSphere’s twist to zero. Child ZSpheres in the chain may be affected, depending on what twist they already have. If the twist is the same as the selected ZSphere, all will be set to zero.

Hope it’s useful,

Excellent! I’m glad solutions are popping up.

Thanks for the help, Marcus.

marcus you must be in a band cause you totally rock! Thanks for this script!

Was there ever a solution to retain your draw size at 1 when switching from draw to move mode? I see marcus’s ctrl clicking to move but what if i want to move a few zspheres or my model its not as convienent as the old way, i used to love zspheres but this has really started to wear me down.
