as it happens there’s some other artists out there that know your work and saw your work on YouTube and
Kotaku…in a really big way. Under the banner:"Mortal Kombat Rebirth" and as you’ll see, your sculpture is now being
called ‘Sub-Zero.’

I came here to ask what happened, i’m a huge fan of your work, and i’m
afraid that someone stole your work and used without your consent, because as far as i can remember, your character wasn’t the Sub-Zero
I’ve seen it too Man… I wonder if you got payed for that particular picture…Which you should… (its a quick pic that is shown in the Teaser Pilot or whatever.)

It is really cool that your work is in there but it is also pretty bad that they just grabbed it and used it without your consent. Another issue is that if its in that trailer I would assume that they are going to use your design throughout the movie(s) (if its getting this type of attention you can assume it could be a series of movies). Also not very cool.
I would be getting legal advice if I were you. If you don’t you could be missing out on a big pay check and possible follow up work…
I hate this type of thing because it makes people think twice before posting all their beautiful pieces of work.

Okay, so I had to sign up as I would like to inform you guys of whats going on. I’m just someone whose been doing a bit of research on this whole ordeal, and found it interesting to see you have no clue on the fact that your picture was used. Not gonna lie though, thats pretty awesome. Although its a shame he didn’t credit you or contact you (although to be fair, he had NO credits)
Okay. Where do we start.
This is all based on my research and I believe it to be the most accurate considering it came from interviews and what not.
Kevin Tancharoen was the director of this short film. He also created the poor remake “Fame”. He has no affiliation with any company and was merely doing this to show WB that they should take into consideration, rebooting the series with him as the director. Most of the people donated their time, and equipment to Kevin so he could work on it. It took two days to shoot, and 2 months to edit. So once again, it is basically just a demo reel. That’s basically the story behind it.
Warner brothers did plan on making a film in 2013 but it got delayed due to the legal reasons of who owns the rights to MK. (the original film makers or midway/WB) So the one in 2013 has nothing to do with this, and it was supposed to be in 2010 till it got delayed so the chances of that one being made is slim. However the chances of another one being made, because of this new video, is a lot better.
As for legal advice, while he did use your picture without consent, he isn’t getting a profit off of the project, so unfortunately, nothing would come of getting legal assistance. No that is not how subzero is going to look if a movie is to come, because once again, this is just a demo reel to show that WB should take up the job. And for the guy having limited resources, it was just him cutting corners. Honestly though, I’m sure not many people have seen it until now. And you know THOUSANDS of people have seen it and love it. It also is giving your forum a bit of an increase in traffic I’m sure.
So once again, it is not a trailer, and it is not the final image of what subzero would look like. Just a way for kevin to kind of cut corners, but for what he pulled off it is exceptional in my opinion. As for what you can do, well it would be nice to find a way for him to contact you or vice versa. But just soak in the glory of having a ton of people love the design. Chances are though if you only have it posted on this forum, he might be a member.

Please get your facts straight, it is NOT the production on IMDB, the people who used the image are not affiliated with WB or anyone, although the shortfilm was an attempt to sell a new Mortal Kombat idea to WB, they have nothing to do with it.
the image has gotten a lot of internet love now, and you are due some credit, but dont go looking for it at WB, find the director Kevin Tancharoen and talk to him perhaps.

Yeah I came here to say that your art has been stolen too. Glad I’m not the only one who noticed.
EDIT: Yeah I don’t think he could successfully sue the director even if he wanted to. No one has made any money on it. But the director is using his little concept film to promote his idea to studios who WILL pay him millions if they agree to his idea. They clearly like his artwork, maybe they should give him a job. But at the very least they should apologize and give him credit. There’s no way to spin it and make it so that it’s ok that they stole this awesome artwork without the knowledge of the artist.

I’ve just been doing a lot of research on the subject as I love MK and have been wanting a reboot of the series for a long time now.
I was redirected to this website after someone posted the link on www.kotaku.com to make it aware about this little theft incident.
And I figured since you guys were a bit in the dark on the subject I would try to fill you in. I also really wanted to know if the author of the model knew anything about the movie, hence I was waiting to see what his response would be. Then a bunch of interviews came out and I got to see the story, so now it was just me feeling I should update you all.
Sadly I am not involved. 
FOOD! for all artists out there…please stand up to ‘Kevin Kansumthing’…I hate it when people just take what they want for their own succes and not give credit where it’s due…I hope i transfered some of my anger

Wow. When I saw that SubZero, I thought I recognized it.!! I would never have found this thread though. Good pull!
Blind Rascal was pretty much right in his assessment of the project from what I have heard.
I just hope this helps get the actual project made. The video was sweet!! Sucks about the theft though, but the Foo does not seem to be too upset about it.
