First off, I’m no expert, having only recently started doing this myself, but I think I may have come across the problem you are having. I think you’ve got either Flip Red or Flip Green turned on when creatng your cavity map, make sure they’re both turned off and it should come out grey.
I tried to release the projection, but it didnt change anything…
Im doing exactly the way you say, can i try one of your meshes where you did succeed doing that?
Thanks:)
Hi guys, thanks fro all your help, on this forum.
I was wondering i can generate a 2k normal texture on my model but not a 4k? Why, UV are clean as a whistle.
edit:// zbrush just crashes when i set the texture to 4k,the only way i can generate 4k is the old way via gemetry > Normal Map pulldown.
I am far from an expert either, but my cavity maps come out black and white.
Before I enter ZMapper I get white color, set sliders to 4096 and make texture. Then I go into ZMapper and make my cavity map, and when I exit back to ZB my texture is now black and white cavity map.
Never seen the colors : ) Sounds interesting.
You mentioned a “NormalTexture” do you mean a Normal Map? Also you should first set your texture size and click new before entering ZMapper to create any texture. That way you know your texture size going in. I have only been using the program for 5 months but thats how I do it. It also could be a limitation of your system and ZBrush does not have the RAM to perform the action. Hope this helps.

I can’t get zmapper to open in zbrush. It can’t cant find the plugin that i downloaded form zbrush.
I am using a PC XP
my specs are 2.8 ghrz
2 gig ram
5o gigs of free space on hard drive.
You must not have it installed correctly, the ZMapper files need to be in the Zplugin folder. C:\Program Files\Pixologic\ZBrush2\ZData\ZPlugs\
Double check your installation instructions I’m sure t will work then for you.

Hi guys, Here are my specs:
Dont know what i’m doing wrong. would appreciate some help a lot.

The Maya preset you are using is intended to be used in the viewport only (not software rendered) and the file node containing the normal map should be connected to the .normalcamera of the lambert.
What you are seeing does seem very odd to me. It looks like stairstepping is occuring. This happens when you go from 8 bit to 16 bit.
Good luck.
Ryan
Thanx a lot Ryan for your reply.
I ended up using the “infamous” js_Normalmapper shader, which is working pretty good.
It’s a shame though, one has to install plugins and make a big fuss just in order for it to work.
Stairstepping is something i’ll have to make some research on -never heard of this before. sounds intresting
Thx
Stefan
How do you install that plugin? I’m trying to get normals to work.
Just download it on Jan Sandström’s website:
http://www.pixero.com/downloads_mr.html (for mentalray)
the file has a how-to-install textfile included.
Peace
Hi guys and girls.
Now this may sound like a broken record but I have read and tryed everything suggested in this entire thread in regards to getting the zmapper interface to show on my canvas/ screen.
Others have added their specs so here are mine on this comp.
NEC Notebook
1.2gb RAM
82 GB spare space left
Windows XP
I have only recently upgraded from an older PC and have not yet totally tweeked this PC yet.
Now, I am open for any advice including any memory or software upgrades. If I have missed something could anyone please point me into the correct direction. The zmapper application works fine on our Mac but I brought this notebook primarly for modelling.
Now, all of you people have been totally cool in giving me advice on some of the test projects I have been doing. I have also learnt more from this site than the classes I have taken using zbrush. I hope you guys can pull me out of the mud here also.
Kindest regards

Hello Damian -
Is ZMapper starting but you can not see the controls? What happens when you start ZMapper? Does it give you any errors? if so, what are they? What graphics card do you? Do you have the latest drivers? ZMapper requires OpenGL. Are you confident that your graphics card has this?
Cheers,
Ryan
Hi Ryan, I am not sure if the graphic card does but I will find out (I have a guys who has put this computer together for me). If I do not I will definitly upgrade. When I ordered the computer I broght the sofware through the same company
I get the main screen, the revolving model in a large document but no zmapper control panel. It seems that a few of the people earlier in the thread had the same problem but I could not find the actual remedy. I have done everything suggested like increasing the doc size and hiding the the side panels (its easier just to hit the z window layout).
Everything else works well but maybe the graphics card is not what I need and I may need it upgraded.
The one time I experienced this was when my screen size was too low. For example 1024 x 786. At 1280 width it worked. On the off chance are you using a lower screen resolution?

Cool, got it mate. Now its working. Time to go and play with it. Thanks for your time brother.

Cant delete my post but i figured out my previous problem…now im trying to figure out what type of shader to use with JS_normalmapper, as the mental ray materials dont have a normal camera from which to attach the out :S Anyone know what might clarify this for me?
Hello,
I am having trouble to install the zmapper…
I downloaded “ZMapper_RevD” and place them inthe folder “ZPlugs” I created under ZStartup… (…Pixologic/ZBrush2/Zstartup/ZPlugs)
Restarted software, can’t find the plugin tab…
Any suggestion would be appreciated…
You have to load the Zscript…Zscript and load…point it to the script wherever you saved it, and there will now be a button under the plugins
