Problems installing 3.1 Patch

I’m trying to install the 3.1 patch on my laptop and I get a windows installer error message that zbrush doesn’t exist on my computer or that I don’t have the right version of either the software or of the patch.

I can run zbrush 3 no problem on my machine… what gives with trying to install the patch?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Have you tried reinstalling zb3 before you do the update ?

Exact same problem here. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Haven’t tried reinstalling ZB3 yet - in the absence of any other ideas I might try it (although I don’t see why it should make any difference)

I posted a thread on this same topic in this forum yesterday. It was subsequently moved to the support forum and then disappeared altogether. Can any of the moderators tell me what happened to my thread?

I’ll try and see if that works… don’t know why the problem… thanks.

and a few people here at work hava the same problem. it says…Please see attached JPG.

I have the same problem and sent a support request today, no answer yet (normal with the new 3.1 which just got released).
Are you using Windows XP 64 ?

Would you let me know if that works mrcharles?

Thanks,

Nolan

Just standard 32bit XP for me

Exact same problem here (XP 64).

I had similar problems installing the 3.1 update and fixed it by updating the Windows Installer.

My editing PC is never connected to the internet so it doesn’t get the automated security and OS updates. Also, the 3.1 update automatically installed the VC2005 C++ Runtime DLLs. Systems specs are in my signature…MG

Tried updating Windows Installer, still no joy:(

Would you guys consider upgrading to Vista? It solved every problem I got with Zbrush 3.0 and the 3.1 update works perfectly.

In my case, the updater insists on going out to the internet for a file (which doesn’t work very well on my stand alone system). Manually putting the required file in the same directory does no good. We’ll see what tech support has to say…

Are you selling?..

I just bought a new work station and seriously considered Vista… but I’m wary of any microsoft product and isn’t at least service pack 1…

So, i use win xp pro 32 for the present with both the new workstation and my old laptop for use with zBrush, Maxwell Renderer, modo, Lightwave, World Machine, Photoshop, etc.

I should say that the 3.1 patch installed just fine on the new workstation… the problem is with the copy on my laptop…

I will try the installer update and then reinstall zbrush tonight when I return to my laptop at home (unless there is some other breakthrough before then…).

I had a similar problem. I run Vista 32bit, and it turned out I had to run it in Administrator mode. However, if you are running on XP, you probably already are an admin anyway so that won’t be an issue.

Well, reinstalling ZB3 worked here. One interesting thing was that I clicked Add/Remove programs first and ZB was not on the installed programs list, even though it was working fine. So I just installed ZB3 again, then it showed up on the list and the ZB3.1 installer worked.

we are having the same issuse here at work.

Which windows installer are you guys getting? I see 3 diffrent ones, Ver. 2, ver 3, ver 3.1 and 3.1 version 2

well updaing windows installer didnt work for me.

pulling my hair out with this. Zbrush 3 isnt showing up in the add/remove programs either.

Problems with the uninstall…

I have two computers, only one of which is used at a time. Originally I used the license check-in system, but my studio internet connection was down for several days and I used the phone activation (unaware at the time that this shut-down the check-in system) to get my studio computer zbrush running. I have applied the 3.1 patch, no problem.

My laptop at home continued with the check-in license until I started to install the 3.1 patch. I kept getting a error message telling me I didn’t have the right version of zbrush or of the patch. So I posted on the forum and some said that uninstalling and reinstalling solved their patch install problems.

I tried using add/remove programs, but there was no zbrush or pixologic entry. I read the on-line docs and they said to “upgrade” computers, deactivate your check-in and use add/remove and install anew. Well, I still don’t have zbrush appear in add/remove and I can’t find an uninstaller… and now I can’t reactivate the check-in on my laptop.

Further attempts to run in install without removing the original install aborts with errors.

Have I fouled things up for my laptop? I hope not, for it is the only way I can use zbrush when I am away from my studio at home or on travel.

I am running win xp pro 32bit, service pack2… on a Dell m70 laptop.

Rats… awaiting help from support…
