pointpusher Sketchbook (2 new VID onpage 31)

WOW, I misclicked and lost all my work HAHAHA so noob…
Anyway, the base model is great, loved it, thanks for sharing!!!

Hi POiNtPuShEr!
All videos will be very inspiring! I really like your characters!

Thank you all very much! @Cristian Rio, I’ve been following you man, awesome stuff!

Here is a new thing for me. Still very early.

Your work is amazing and the speed sculpts are so helpful. I learn so much every time I watch your work.

I was watching the ‘Can’t sleep. Started Messing with Zbrush’ video.

At 10 seconds you expand the base meshes ears. What brush did you use for that and what were its settings?

I have downloaded the base mesh you uploaded. ( Thanks heaps for that, by the way). And I can adjust the ear in the same way you did in that speed sculpt.

I hope that question makes sense.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers.

An update on the tree…

@ Laurie, Thank you so much! I was using the MoveTopological brush @ the default settings. Yeah, the ear area on that mesh is not the best.tree.3.jpg

best inspiration^^…why u use a 25 value for focal angle?

Thanks for the quick answer. I gave it a go with the Move Topological. I can’t seem to maintain the shape and form of the ear as I pull it outward as well as you do. The topology seems to go bit haywire near the front/top of the ear.

Thanks

there is no doubt, you are really great artist!
i love your painting and sculpting videos!!!

regards
Jerry

pls, upload a slower version of the video ;D I really wanst to see closer what you are doing. great work as always.

@ slocik, I don’t have a slower video any more, but if you point out what you’d like to see, I can always make a real-time video showing a few minutes of what I was doing. Let me know.

Here is a quick render test (Mental Ray) for the tree. I’ll try to finish up the sculpting and maybe do a quick polypaint on it too.

I really like your last works, keep it up, keep inspiring! :+1:

Was mostly wondering what tools you use for what, but i somehow managed with pausing it every 3s, and noticing there is a hd option ;D Need to take another look at your ui ;f
But still i have no idea how you get those sharp crisp shadows, my shadows on matcaps always look blurry and crappy ;(

@slocik,

For tools I was using:

Dam standard to do the initial carve in and pull outs. If I want to accentuate a change of planes, I use Dam Standard with a negative setting on one end of the plane, and again with a positive value on the other end of the plane. If you like, you can use one of the polish or flatten brushes to flatten the plane as well.

For shadows, go in to the render tab, under BPR Shadows, set the blur to 1 and also try adjusting the intensity up a little depending on your needs. Hope that helps some. Let me know if you still need me to make a video (no trouble at all if you do).

Nice sculpting!
Which brushes do you use to create your initial volumes?

Thanks for sharing!

@stefanobernardi Thank you!!! To block in shapes, I usually use Move topological, Clay Buildup, and Smooth Valance. Once the rough silhouette is blocked in, I use Damien Standard to carve shapes in that divide the secondary forms. Then, start with the same few brushes all over again in the shapes divided by those lines. Then I realize I hate it, and erase it and start over.

what the hell man, i didnt even know there was a bpr render option. I always thought all those sss and transparency options were continuing the tradition of having broken and not working tools ;D
And i like how the dam standard brush dosnt even show up in the brush window, you have to find it ;D
thx, im gonna play around with all those fancy options, and see what they do.

hey pOiNtPuShEr haven’t been around here in a long time its nice to see all your new works… your work has improved tons have started watching your ustream videos learning alot from them so far, zbrush 4 has alot of new workflows and sculpting brushes… i was wondering about hard surface workflow, i tried attempting it a while back with vehicles and architecture with zbrush 3, but with the addition of zbrush 4 and all of the new clipping brushes and shadow box features seems like there would be a better workflow… i was wondering if you would please do a video on hard surface modeling and explain workflow that is involved… when ever you have any extra time available friend…

@ Troy, I have not really tried much hard surface stuff in ZB. I do want to buy the Mike Jenson Eat 3D Hard surface DVD though. It looks amazing from the clips.

Here is a small update. I’ve been really busy @ work and on this little side project. Here is a quick 2D and 3D pass at a character design.

man, its always a pleasure to watch your stuff ;D I have no idea how can you be so fast and efficient, its magic i tell ya.
And thanks for mentioning that dvd i gotta check that out, i hope its not just a video of a guy showing off his design skills and actually covers a good workflow ;]

Man I watched that with a smile on my face the entire time, just wonderful.
and an awesome choice of music to boot:+1:
