Is this for just yourself or to land work?

It could use a LOT of work man. The first rule I’ve always been taught to follow for this sortof thing is put your best pieces first, because if you start off with very mediocre work then have an amazing piece at the end, there is a very very small chance that the employer will wait through 2:30 to see those better works. You started off with a few pretty cool but unfinished looking characters, and then had a really badass animation at the end. If I was an employer, I would have closed the browser after maybe 20 seconds and would not have gotten to see the awesome animation at the end.

Also, what job are you going for? Character artist, modeler, animator, etc? If characters are relevant to the position you want, I would at least composite in a more interesting background rather than the dull default Zbrush gradient. I don’t even like to work with that thing, let alone have it in my renders :p.

All in all, good work! But definitely take some time and look at some professional reels and see why theirs work so well :). Hope I’ve helped.

A few things to keep in mind.

You want to keep your reel short. Not too short but there’s nothing wrong with a 45 second reel. If someones looking for an artist they’re not likely to sit through 50+ 2 minute long reels.

In order you want you want Great work, Good work, Best work.
Show them you’re Great, Catch their eye.
Keep their attention, show some variety.
And finally WOW them.

Well I think if this is for just yourself and you’re learning that’s cool maybe add a couple other pieces to the reel. If this is to get work I would think you have some ways to go probably a good year of solid practice in anatomy, character design and those types of classes.

OH, sorry for not saying before, is to get modeling work

@G-Dub: thanks very much :), at first it was for me, but then I decided to do to get a job. I keep in mind the study of anatomy.

@polaroid29 yeah, it help me a lot, really thank full for al the tips and Feed back. yeah, modeling is my job (more environments and props than characters, but I`m learning how to do characters)

@crevasse ey man, that rule sounds cool, Great-good-best I will do that

I will remake it with some new things and re-timing others,

I agree your end animation is pretty cool and you might want to lead with that.

The first 3 characters look unfinished and not yet ready for inclusion.

As cool as the motorcycle is and although it’s great practice to model it; it’s basically the same one done by Pixolator in “Making Time For Art” which is a pretty well known piece, yours is too similar so probably shouldn’t be included in a reel you are using to get work.

You might shorten up the time you are displaying some of the pieces. One or two 360 degree turns on each model should be fine most of the time and you might slow the rotation down a bit.

If you haven’t seen it yet definitely check out Steve Warner’s thread about making demo reels it’s very helpful.

I dont think you would get much work based on this is isnt very strong at the moment. The character concept needs much work and the model while some of the sculpting is alright the pose is poor along with the way it’s all presented. I’d take a closer look at what your peers who are getting work are producing. There are a lot of issues…why is the character floating above the stand?..his tentacle is also below his foot which seems weird unless hes flying…but there;s nothing to indicate flight from this character. Things like that I’d think about.

The animation at the end is what Id show I thought that was great why not show that first?..Your work actualy goes from bad to pretty awesome but this is my 2nd time watching it I shut it off last time 1/2 so…maybe put the best first. Im also really curious as to how you did that final scene!

@Dlangley now that I saw it again I thought the same, the alien look unfinished, but it was for a comercial, in my new upload i will put the shot of it and take of mesh turntable and maybe just one Turn of 360.

the motocycle it’s basically the same one done by Pixolator in, i take out, its hard but true  I will check the thread, and domy best.

@G-bub OH man, its hard to read, but you have a lot of good points, i will remake it,
for the last shot i modeled a laptop (The final laptop of the shot) in maya, with all the possible details like individual keys, USB ports, CD-room. etc.; then I exported it to Zbrush and using LAYERS and brush ZPROYECT i proyected planes on the laptop surface to make BLENDSHAPES
(one blendshape for the first shot, one BS for the keyboard, etc) it was a lot of patience and a lot of trial and error.

thanks very much

I know it’s hard to pull out the motorcycle, you did a great job on it. The good part is, having made it, you have the techniques so you can use them to make something else thas equally impressive. Keep at it!

hie everyone, sorry for took a lot of time to make my new demo reel based on your feedback, I found and rescued a lot of my professional works so, please check it, C&C  thanks
