This “error” screen of Windows 7 happen when the CPU is at their full process and that the software is not responding. You can have the same effect in other softwares. it’s not a crash, it’s just Windows which is working like that.

Just wait a little bit, 2 min to wait for a preprocess is not too long, it can takes eventually 5 minutes.

Hmm, 4hours of waiting should make clear, theres no progress any more, particularly because the cores are idle after 2 minutes. (I´m monitoring the stress of my cores.) I´d tried the whole day now roughly 6 times, between 4h and 20 minutes - every try ending with a crash. Maybe its sth special with my model and I have to get again 40 h in sculpting. Lil bit frustrating : I´ve ZBrush for 10 weeks now, it´s my 4th try to finish a model and everytime there´s sth stopping me. But enough self pity ;) So, the purpose behind it was to get less polygons to use TopoGun. ZBrush with it´s 15k polyrestriction is not useful in this case. Unluckily I´d used DecMaster earlyer in the process, but found out way later, that it kills the divisionhistory, so that way to get less polys fails :/ So maybe there are other suggestions to get new topology? I´d tried the way to remesh and extract all for 4 hours now, but no matter how I adjust the sliders, there´s no satisfactory result. I even get some funny thruster at my dragon ^^

I created it with ZSketch and made an adaptive skin. Ah, maybe I should remark, that SymAxis is Z.

Yes, 4 hours it’s not ok at all! Do you have a way to provide me your model for internal testing?

And Decimation master kills the Subdivision levels as it is designed to optimize the polygon count without affecting the visual aspect of your models. No way to keep your levels in the way it works…

I’ve got a problem quite similar to the one of “Faber Draconis”.
I also got Windows 7 and my system is nearly the same.

If i start the preprocessing i can’t see a progress bar and ZBrush crushes.
Any Ideas?

how many polygons on your models and how long do you wait before windows say that it crashes? Do you have the windows message when clicking in ZBrush UI?

I’ve got 4m Polys on my model and i do not receive an error message from windows. I see that ZBrush opens another window, but i am not able to open/click on it.

I worked around this prob and made a new topo in TopoGun. (was neccessary anyway and this tool doesnt´t care how many polys you have :wink:
So after this retopo I´d much less polys (150k) and was even able to reconstruct one subdivisionlvl to ~ 40k polys.

And DecMaster is sth I don´t use any more, cause of its habit to change all into tris. Or just as it seems not before I´m ready with the model at all.

But I´m still a bloody noob to CG, so these are just my 2cents ^^

I can’t recontrust one subdevision, because i got trigons :S

I want to export the texture i’ve created but Zbrush crushes while creating a such big uv :frowning:

Hmm, just an idea - no clue if it works:
export it without UV to Topogun, create new topo and bake the texture later with the new topo.
I´d started with CG 6 weeks ago, so if it´s nonsens just forget it ^^

This is really a fantastic tool, but i’m having trouble getting it to work, i’m using windows 7, every time i try to pre-compute it, windows says that zbrush stopped responding, but if i go to the zbrush screen and press esc, the process is aborted and i can go back and work with, and when i let pre-compute work, it takes forever to do it, my model has about 5mil polys, i tried on zbrush 3.1 with the same model, and worked fine… any tips?
Btw, the cpu usage it’s always at 13%, even with 8 threads, i think that it does have some kind of problem with Core i7 cpus, i’m using it. Any tips?

Since Windows 7, the system can think that the application hang out if it’s not responding. It can happens if you click in the ZBrush UI. Decimation Master didn’t crash nor ZBrush, it’s only that Windows is thinking that ZBrush doesn’t respond while in fact, it’s doing a lot of computing and doesn’t “reply” to the OS.

Just let ZBrush working and everything will be fine. A preprocess can be very long (up to several minutes).
I own myself an i7 (920) under Win 7 64 Ultimate and everything is fine.

No, it will only create triangles.

Very impressive plugin. The quality of the original mesh is kept even after the decimation.

I was wondering if you have a model with polypaint, can you decimate it and then get the polypaint back on it somehow. Or is there no way to do this.

In the Preferences Menu under Decimation Master, select “Use and Keep Polypaint”

Oh ok , didn’t check in preferences of Zbrush itself , cause Keep UVs is in plugin options. cool.

After decimating a tool the texture from UV Check shows red in the UVs. If I export the model the maps aren’t included.

Any ideas about how I can prevent introducing UV map errors when using the decimation master?
