Pixologic Presents: Action Hero Contest

That’s it! We’ve hit the deadline, and the contest is now closed to new entries.

Thank you to everyone who has chosen to participate! What an amazing lineup! Over 150 active entries – it’s a good thing we have super judges because I think even their mighty powers are going to be challenged by this much talent!

Keep in mind that this is a WIP challenge. Entries must be updated in some fashion at least once per week. It is also highly encouraged to offer one another advice and cheer everyone on. There’s even a special prize for the non-finalist who still showed the best community participation during the competition.

Please refer to the Official Rules should you have any questions.

Good luck in the contest!

Hey…Just one last one for you. I’m nearing the end of my modeling/posing and will likely have my final image next weekend. What do you do if you finish early? Technically, not updating will get you pulled out of the running so do we drag out the postings in that case?

Good luck to all who were able to enter!

At the point that you make your final entry, state that you’re doing so. At that point your thread will be closed, finalizing your entry.

I really don’t recommend that you finish early, though. Take the extra time to experiment and try different tweaks. Work up an even better TransPose demonstration. Add more details. Experiment with PolyPaint. Create a great scene to put your character into. (This last won’t influence the judging panel, but if your entry makes the top 10 it very likely will make a huge difference with the community vote.)

You can still always go back to what you’d originally planned to be your final entry, but you’ll have shown MUCH more ZBrush use and expertise in your thread. That WILL influence the judging panel.

I was thinking about the final render. The rules speak of a final render of the sculpt, but can a whole scene be added to it? Can one add other graphic elements for example design a complete cover of a comic book?

Absolutely. The final render that will be judged by the panel is the one of the completed posed model on its pedestal. Here’s the info from the Final Submission page of the rules:

So you must have the render of the posed character on his/her pedestal, but you can also include additional renders including a scene. Should you be selected as a finalist by the judges, it’s highly likely that such a render will carry some weight with the popular vote. This is one of the reasons why I don’t recommend completing your entry much before the end of the contest. There’s so much that can be done to make each entry the best that it can possibly be!

hey aurick. I have searched for a way to imbed vimeo videos. I found solutions for youtube and veo. ist it possible to imbed vimeo vids too??

sorry to disturb you. but that would be nice to know for my herocontest posts!

have a nice day!

Hey guys, check out my super hero thread to learn a little more about my alternate to transpose. http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=66519

The only options that ZBC has been coded for are the ones at the bottom of this page: http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/misc.php?do=bbcode

thanks for the info aurick!

Ok here are my 2 questions

  1. When judging the final character, will textures, rendering, or anything aside from the model be evaluated?

  2. I know my character and concept are original but is it OK for me to use an actor for the facial reference? EX: My character is a mad scientist. I love the Back to the future movies and every time i think scientist i think Christopher Lloyd (Great Scott!) Is it acceptable to use his face as reference for my character?

Aberrant, regarding your first question:

-> Final Submission

There you´ll find the answer

Thanks for the rules link, I read them over and it answered my texture/rendering question but I was not able to figure out if I can use an actor as reference for the face. If not its no big deal I just dont want to start going the wrong direction.

Well… I´m not sure concerning your second question.
So I can´t comment on it… Sorry.
But I´v just seen you didn´t upload something so far.
So maybe you should start to build your base mesh while you´re waiting for an official response. So you won´t waste time:)

Hey Aurick,
I wanted to participate in the challenge but i was late in deciding his concept…now as i got the concept and backstory ready for my action hero can i make a new thread entry now…i know its late by 5 days, but still if i make a n entry would it be considered by panel???

Since this is as a reference, yes.

I’m sorry, but no. There were three weeks to prepare and enter. The deadline (which was extended a week) was final. Anything else would be unfair to those who did make the deadline.

There will almost certainly be more contests in the future.

Oops by bad luck…i would have hurried to be participated in the contest

Anyways thanks a lot aurick …and ya now i will be waiting for contest by zbrush

Hi Aurick,

I was wondering if you could offer a concrete solution for mac users in this contest to record their transpose video as the feature is missing in the mac version? That’s also without paying for additional software like Camtasia. So far I’m not having much luck. I’ve tried Snapz Pro but the ZBrush .ZMV won’t play in the background if Snapz is running in the foreground. I’ve yet to try some other free software but if I can’t find a solution then I’m a bit stuck. Can you help?

Thanks

Chris

There´s been a discussion already in this thread I think

http://www.jingproject.com/

-It´s free and supports PC+MAC

It´s quite easy… if I say so it really is:lol: … and usually there´s no problem with Zbrush. I´ve tried it
BUT I don´t know how to convert the saved ying movie into some other format…
That´s the problem ^^
Sorry that´s all I can tell you

BTW- Let me know if you solved this problem
I´m not a MAC user but I´ve trouble with the quicktime player…
Thanks.

FRAPS is a free screen capturing program. not sure if there is a mac version but thats the first thing that came to mind.
