Pixologic Announcement - The Roadmap to ZBrush 2.5

I just noticed Hexagon 2 has z-brushlike displacement painting, and also have built in uv unwrapping… it’s due out in about 2 weeks.

An I also saw modo 201 has displacement painting and also uv unwrapping as well.

The zbrush normal mapper looked like it could have easily been used to do uv unwrapping, but by the time they would att it, it looks like zbrush will be passed up.

I am very confused why people think that zmapper unwraps meshes.

As far as my knowledge goes. It is an OpenGL based real-time viewer, with the main purpose of viewing normal maps real-time, as a side function it has the ability to morph your mesh into its already existing uvs. it doesn’t create or edit uvs.

So how is it that zmapper (an OpenGL based Viewer of models) could have easily been used to unwrap meshes?

With magic pixol-dust of course.

The normal mapper “peltmaps” meshes, and the peltmapping looks almost identical to a uv pelt map. That’s why people think it’s uv mapping, not normal mapping.

when you say “normal mapper” or “normal mapping” are you referring to GUV or AUV tiles or the plug-in “zmapper” or normal maps in general.

the plug-in zmapper doesn’t create or edit your existing uvs in any way that could be perceived as unwrapping other than the morph uv function and all that function does is morph your mesh from its original state to the existing uvs. But who knows, maybe zbrush will implement a function where you can select your seams and generate uv pelt maps off of your mesh inside zbrush. until then why not just use max if pelt maps are your fancy. In my experience there is no one click solution to laying out uvs (even with pelt maps you still need to tweak it to get it right) if you want 1. as little stretching as possible. 2. as few shells as possible 3. easy to paint flat texture sheet in an app like photoshop. of course if you don’t care about 2 of those 3 things GUV and AUV tiles are the best thing for near perfect and quick unwraps at the click of a button

I don’t think zbrush will be passed up yet. It’s the king of plygon count. Nothing on the Hexagon site shows it capable of supporting the level detail that Zbrush can spit out.

Conversely, that easy edge creation/manip and creasing is awfully tempting. Which is why I am considering both Zbrush and Hexagon.

To compliment ZBrush, I think Silo’s a better choice than Hexagon. Less cost, and less overhead due to features ZBrush already gives you (and handles better).

Just one opinion; your mileage may vary.

You guys talk to much.
And who the F cares abaut you ppl saing you stop using zbrush becouse there is no update ? Just stop, and dont spam this thread …
I like the funny posts in here, btw nothing is perfect, but this forum is getting close, so i love it :]

 and here i thought there would some interesting news again with the thread on top arrggg

Btw that modo thread nice vid :+1:

Grrr, the same with me, but it was you

Who said no news is good news??? :rage:

Well I would agree with opinion, Hex does look very capable though, but Silo + Zbrush have the edge without a doubt…

I like to use Zbrush with…errr…ZBrush…and on top of that a little bit of cream, wipped with…yes…ZBrush. No more no less :small_orange_diamond: :small_orange_diamond: :small_orange_diamond: :small_orange_diamond: :sunglasses: :warning:

Ps…can someone show me the map of the road to Zbrush 2.5…can’t find it here:confused:  :grimacing:

Note the version of zBrush being offered as a prize in this challenge.

I think the release is “Real Soon Now”

Or… it could mean the prize is a copy of 2.0 and you will get 2.5 when it’s released.

Raining on the parade

Kinda chill 'roun here yo???

Well, it was about time! :stuck_out_tongue:

I assume we’re talking not much further in interstellar terms? By this logic alpha centauri is just ‘round the corner’.  Although to be fair 2.5 wont effect my workflow at all, V2 does enough for me at the moment.

Wayne…

It will affect my workflow…as I’ll hopefully be able to use it on my 64bit machine with 4 gigs of ram without having to dual boot or edit my boot.ini or gutting it of 2 gigs of ram etc. I just want to install it and go. RIght now, I just jump back and forth from the old box to the new one which is reaaaaaaaaaaaaally getting old. I hope pixologic releases SOMETHING soon. Z-mapper and the other plugs are great…but dang man…it’s been like 2 years since they’ve actually released. Im guessing they won’t be releasing until Siggy which really sucks :frowning:

The chopper will be here in a few minutes. There is no wind, that is excellent.

The plan is to swing you on the end of the rope through the window.

Your night “cammies” fit tightly. Your breath is coming in gasps now… almost time.

Your equipment is ready.

Face is blackened to blend with the night sky.

Belt with fragmentary grenades and spare clips are fastened to your chest.

Strapped to your ankle is the commando knife that has served you

faithfully for years. The Glock semi probably won’t be needed but better

to be sure. The riflle is set for automatic fire.

Helicopter sets down in the lot. Good, no-one around for miles.

You cling to the rope as the chopper lifts off. If spotted it will be assumed to be the

weather or traffic helicopter.

You arrive at the building, you swing in and back. As you swing forward the second time, you

fire. The glass bursts into tiny fragments. You swing in.

Made it!!

Despite the hour, you can hear a warm, sensuous, compelling voice.

" …it enables you to push and pull, like sculpting in real time…"

You would know that voice anywhere,

You look around, there it is on the desk!!!

You run to it, amazed, right there in front of you…The Upgrade!!!

or

You can wait patiently like everyone else.

Decisions, decisions.

For what it’s worth, I’ve found that by starting Maya and then Zbrush, I can use Zbrush in XP64.
I have 4GB ram, don’t know if this will work for north of 4GB.
