Painting 2D ZHair!

Very cool Jaycephus!

I expect a spate of hirsute ogres any day now

and a few dream lasses as well I reckon.

can someone record a zscript. I can get most of this to work just fine. But just a bit of a trouble especially with making those thin wisps of hair.

All in all, a zscript on the process would be very greatly appreciated.

kinda a dble post :frowning: … didnt realize I was in troble shooting forum b4.

Anyway played around with this abit and came up with the beginnings of some kinda hairy musk rat.

Thanks for posting this stuff,

Dan

I’m also a relative newbie, and I’m not even getting the stipple effect. When I apply the brush I get absolutely nothing at all.

Screen dump attached. As you can see, I have tried to emulate Jaycephus’ setup to the letter.

Andrew

for certain bruses it is necesary to create a new layer… one the layer palete or by pressing Crtl-f with any color or texture  then it should be able to paint on it…

or…just turn on Zadd

Are you on the good layer ?
Pilou

Thanks all. Turning on zAdd worked for me.

I’m a bit puzzled, though, as to why it didn’t add “height” to my rendering, as that is what zAdd does, doesn’t it ?

Also, why do you need zAdd to render color ?

Of course, I left out some basic steps, since I have been using ZBrush for a couple of years now.

If you paint with ZAdd off, you need to have some existing pixols present or you will not see any visible change. With ZAdd off, you are only altering the color and/or material of the existing pixols. So when starting on a document from scratch, I always select a good background color and usually the flat color material for 2D painting, and then press Control-F to fill the layer with pixols.

With ZAdd on, you are adding ‘height’, but it may only be by a small degree, i.e. not enough to really tell. From orbit, can you tell the difference in height between any two points on the Earth? When I want to paint a ‘pure’ 2D picture, I leave ZAdd off. BUT, there are a lot of cool effects and shortcuts to completing an illustration by using all of ZBrush’s tools, including 2.5D and 3D, even if the desired result is a ‘2D painting’.

Haven’t been around lately so I just found this Jay thanks a bunch this is great… I just tried it out a little and it took some tries and adjusting but it works very well…
Thanks again for sharing your discovery!!

Oh just me who is lost but, when I use Directional Brush, Alpha07 and freehand… I just get lines of dots. Your hair got straws, a complete line.
Do you use any kind of smudge or something?

It has been discussed early in this thread, so check that out before posting;)

Sorry :frowning: I checked it out, but missed the last post on the page… Told ya I was lost.

hi,man,that"s cool!

Thanks for sharing this awesome technique!! I made some brown hair.hair.jpg

Also I was wondering what rgb intensities you would recomend for the different steps?

Wow, stellar job! Thanks for the tips.
