Old English Helmet (Early WIP)

nightwoodwolf, Plakkie, Conallwylde - thanks for the comments, hopefully I can take it up another level with the final render.

Conallwylde, I know what you mean as I had the same problems when I started the project. I wanted to stay within ZB for all the modelling. The key to it all is a retopology. To do the basic shape of a helmet you can create a sphere or cylinder and then edit the objects topology (as the sphere or cylinder already has a similar shape to a helmet at the top).

e.g Create a sphere, draw on some new topology so that your new topology covers the top half of the sphere and then pull the sides down to create a helmet shape. When you create a new mesh from the topology you can then edit it more.

If that is too complicated for you I’d advise you to use a 3d package like Hexagen, Cinema 4D etc and simply create a profile and then add a sweep to it.

Thanks for the tip asaxon, I don’t know yet what topology is but I’ll discover that  ‘cause I’d really like to find a cool technic within zbrush to do that, but step by step my brain is starting to boil and somethin’ should come out sooner or later

It’s all about trial and error. You will get there in the end.

For Topology, read Plakkie’s brilliant thread in his signature above.

Allrighty, thanks for the link! I owe you one
