Old cowboy

Just found this!
Excellent progress on this man!
Loving the 30/30

Nice character! The first posts without the mustache sorta kinda looks like George W. Bush!

Thanks guys, I appreciate that.

Now that I’ve taken a second look, it does kinda remind me of George Bush ( hope there’s nothing subliminal about that).

Maybe I could model Dick Cheney pointing the Winchester at him LOL.

No Winchester for Dick Cheney! It would probly have to be a high end Beretta shotgun…

Whelp, I finally finished this thing. I would hate to say what the total number of polys of all the subtools are.

It was a lot of work, but fun to do. Just wish I had ZMapper and all the other goodies working so I could of exported this out and rendered it in Lightwave with all the bells and whistles.

Maybe later.

5 stars and a top row vote from me. Not wild about the skin material, but I love the diecast pewter render. The colors are nicely selected though.

Thanks womball, much appreciated.

It’s this lousy LCD moniter I have. The colors and brightness settings are never right, so doing any kind of photo editing is always a pain.

I’d like to have one that has more accurate color, but those types of LCD moniters are around 2 grand so that’s a bit pricey for me.

Well I haven’t seen that great of completely zbrush done renders yet. External renderers still have a lot more options, which can result in a more complex materials. But perhaps they haven’t been experimented with enough yet.

Sheesh, I just figured out how to apply separate materials to different sub tools… Now I feel like a tool.

Here’s a final firing shot at. Just can’t wait for the updated plug-ins.

Just for funzies I tried the new turntable feature ( pretty cool ) for those that might be interested or just bored.

It’s only one revolution cause it just doesn’t make sense to have more than that. All you have to do is scrub through the Quicktime slider to rotate it back and forth.

Very nice.

Since you’ve done all this hard work, I think you ought to go a bit further and add a belt and spurs. Otherwise he might as well be naked. Spurs are very fitting for a cowboy wearing chaps. The only reason to wear chaps is to ride a horse through brush. Not every cowboy always wears spurs to ride a horse, but the perception is that they did.

The fact that there is no belt on this guy is actually distracting. His pants will fall down. I don’t know what the time-frame of this guy is, but before Hollywood started making cowboy movies in the early 1900’s, no cowboys wore fancy buckles. However, since the days of Tom Mix, they have become a statement, especially in the case of Rodeo Trophy buckles. From a book on Western Buckles:
“There is often a vivid story behind each western belt buckle that speaks of the tradition and rich heritage of cowboy life. A cowboy is extremely proud of his buckles and often passes them down to his children or grandchildren.”

:+1:

Thanks Jaycephus for your thoughts.

I thought about adding a belt, but I thought it would look too crowded because of the belt from the chaps wrap around the waist ( download the turntable and have a look at the back ).
I wanted to add spurs too, but the back part of his trousers extend way beyond his heels so the spurs would have to be a foot long to see them lol.

I was debating whether to create a horse for him or not, still not decided about that one, but if I do, I will probably add spurs because then you would be able to see them.

I also thought about adding suspenders cause I thougth that it would be funnier than a belt. They wore those a lot in those days. This cowboy is more of an 1800’s era cowboy rather than a more modern rodeo type concrete cowboy. ( notice the Winchester:) )

Ater watching DarthWayne’s video on compositing http://www.dashdotslash.net/videos.php , I thought I’d give this render another try. I also touched up the base because I wasn’t happy with it.

Some of the best caricature work I’ve seen on these forums. Great style, pose and detail, everything just right - clean and simple.
