Officer (movie added page 2 May 29th)

dude, come on thats awsome, and the texturing is just great …
looks similar to ced66 recent works, and i love that kind of feel to it ;]
And for the render did you use one material, and did you use any spec and sss amout maps ? Im really interested how did you did it ;]

Wow this sculpt is really cool, though I do question the use of that chin decoration. Seems impractical, even for the military ! Does he have really weak neck muscles?

I don’t like the colored versions as much though (I like the flesh colored guy better than the blue), the chin thing makes it look really fake, like a video game character rather than a real person. even though the model is well sculpted, it looks very flat once the color is on it, as if the grooves are just painted on. maybe it’s because it’s not a solid reflective gold, but hand painted to look gold instead?

I’d suggest doing a simple all gold color, and separate the glowing jewels to actually make them glow.

How is the Cintiq 12" working out for you?? I’m really interested in getting a Cintiq and now the 12" is in my current price range. Did you compare it with the larger version before you bought it?

Oooh, very cool looking style! Really nice hardware as well…

great model, great sculpting, great video. Thanks for sharing this.

Hope you don’t mind me posting a direct link to your video:

great job!!! I like it

Amazing sculpting, and thank you for posting the time lapse video. Its always nice to see how skilled artists work…even if I have to pause and rewind every few seconds
I think the blue version fits the your character the best becuase he has a patient atmosphere to him. The pale cyborg version is also pretty badass.
One of these days Ill go to the Siggraph, its a bit of a jump for me haha.

How do you like the Cintique 12 wx, and especially with ZBrush? From what Ive seen it looks awesome and a ton of fun…although expensive. Ive been thinking of saving the pennies for one but I was curious as to how well it works for sculpting. Do you find your hand gets in the way alot or any other issues that you dont get with a regular tablet?

Also, in your video, how did you do the ear? Did you have sym. on or was there some trick with the masking and mirroring on the other side?

great work !

Gorgeous modelling! But it looks like his beard is trying to attack the rest of his face.

Edit> Oops, just went to page 3 and saw that it was NOT a beard but cyborg coolness. Still, if it was a beard, it looks like that.

Revanto :stuck_out_tongue:

love the design and model, especially his hair style:)

Beautiful work, David!! :+1: I just love how you made that thingummy on his chin!! Thanks for the video!

Hey David, I like very much the aura that emanates from that officer. He looks very charismatic with this peculiar expression
Top vote from me !

nice work , although I too prefer the beard sculpt ,unfortunatly i cant watch any of the vids ,because i get this message “Veoh is no longer available in SOUTH AFRICA.” that sux!

great model and thanks for the vid:+1: :+1:

Very impressive work !!!

Are you running ZBrush through BootCamp, Parallell, or Fusion ?

Thanks a lot everyone for your constructive critism and nice words!
One word about the colors and the saturation, my cintiq is
calibrated right but when I look on my dell lcd screen it’s too saturated so I guess I will correct that eventually,
the purpose to this sculpt was to make a concept not a clean 3d model ready for production,
I didn’t want to spend my time doing the same kind of process I do at work 8 hours a day,
I guess it’s not for everyone since I’m trying to do something that I enjoy, so it’s very personnal but i’m glad some people like it :).

I started as a concept artist in the video game industry 10 years ago and back then I would do more than just modeling, with the new generation of consoles and the kind of work that is involved on AAA titles everyone became very specialized and I lost the right to be recognised as a concept artist. I guess we always have to prove our worth to ourself and to others

(which makes us evolve).

I hope i'm not bothering anyone whith my existential state of mind LOL!!! as far as the cintiq goes it's a nice toy but that's all it is. I realised I could have do just fine with my intuos 3 (don't spend all your money on that) I runned windows XP on my macbook with bootcamp (for the one who asked). I have to thank the people I worked with in the past that pushed me to do better and right now I got a wonderfull panel of colleagues at ubisoft

I work with Cedric Seaut, Pascal Blanche Joel Dos reis Viegas (Feerik) Nicolas Ferrand (viag) amoung others.
I guess we never take enough time to thank the people that are inspiring us!!!

Wow that's a really weird post!!! [<!---->] this is the few passes I used to assemble to image (rendered in 3dsmax 9) [<!---->]![render_passes.jpg|1200x600](upload://lxMFkCOYhLbJEgdvEQiiYVLpMDh.jpeg)![cyborg-officer_concept_bw2.jpg|465x700](upload://gAsY7RxDOogJSAxIvuGVKGBEWls.jpeg)![render_passes.jpg|1100x600](upload://lxMFkCOYhLbJEgdvEQiiYVLpMDh.jpeg)
