In the Movie menu, click ‘Doc’ instead of ‘Window’.
If you don’t want the ZBrush logo, in the Movie menu under ‘Overlay Image’ turn ‘Opacity’ down to 0 and in the ‘Title Image’ section, turn ‘Fade In’ and ‘Fade Out’ times down to 0.
No problem!
How do you change the aspect ratio, so I can make it 16:9?
Cheers.
Resize the Document to a 16:9 ratio. Sizes are as follows:
852 x 480
1280 x 720
1365 x 768
1600 x 900
1920 x 1080
Then you have the ‘Large’ (100%), ‘Medium’ (50%) and ‘Small’ (25%) buttons in the Movie menu to divide those sizes.
Thanks again, zber2. I take it that I should select the aspect ratio before starting the project as the creature I was working on has went fat :o) and I don’t seem to be able to rotate it, even when trying to do the record turntable thing.
No, not necessarily, just hit ‘Ctrl+N’ to clear the canvas then redraw the Tool onto the canvas again.
Thanks again, couple of strange things happening, the creature was static and overlapped by another one which was really big, can’t see all of it, I have removed static creature (this is tool yeah?) the oversized one I can move around but doesn’t seem to go away with the ctrl n.
Ah, it’s cool zber 2, got it sorted. Cheers.small_orange_diamond

hmm, actually problems persist, since making the change in aspect ratio, even after clearing the document cntrl n and drawing in new tool, it seems iI have lost the ability to rotate, move or scale the object.
Did you turn ‘Edit’ (T) back on?
The first thing you do after you draw the Tool on the canvas is turn ‘Edit’ on.
The edit is greyed out, can’t select it, pressing t seems to do nothing either.
That’s why I said “The first thing you do after you draw the Tool on the canvas is turn ‘Edit’ on”. If you do anything other than that, it will drop the Tool to the Canvas again. Hit ‘Ctrl+N’ then draw the Tool on the canvas then turn on 'Edit.
Sorted.
Thanks for taking the time to help me here.
Much appreciated.
To start new, follow these steps.
- If there is anything on the canvas, make sure Edit is off then Ctrl+N to clear the canvas.
- Select your Tool from the Tool palette, draw it on the canvas then turn on Edit.
This is standard ZBrush starting proceedure for working on 3D editable meshes.
As you may have guessed I’ve just sorta got fired right into it on a sort of trial and error manner. I will have a good look at the tutorials and the manual soon. In the meantime I’ve really been helped by your advice and am uploading to youtube. It’s taking about 10 hours for 31 seconds of uncompressed 6023791kb It’s cool though I’m doing it overnight and am on a mission to find my ideal high rez settings.
ok, here it is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6v7tw5ec0w4&feature=youtu.be
Bit disappointed as it’s only 720, I’ve uploaded the raw mov file with no compression, millions of colours plus and best quality selected.
The previous video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYz1MY8raI8&feature=plcp before I got my setting correct re. getting rid of the surrounding menus etc (going into document mode) gave the 1080 option and an option for original, which I’m assuming is higher than 1080, which is all good.
The only difference I can think of apart from going into document mode was changing from millions of colours to millions of colours plus. Even at 1080 or original I’m still feeling it looks a bit blocky or pixelated compared to what I actually see in zbrush. Would increasing the fps beyond 24 help? My goal is highest rendering settings possible. I’d rather wait longer uploading a raw file than risk decreasing quality by putting it in a container file. Although I may not have the right idea with that, from a background in music and creating fractal art that’s been my experience that you can’t beat uncompressed.
Cheers.
