New Works

These last two images are just great SD :+1:
Especially the one before the last.
A gigantic print on a wall, that could be something.

Hi Michalis :)…Hey Thank You…:)…I haven’t had any posters printed up in awhile, but that one might work as one I think…
I tried for that Greek Tragedy approach on it,…where the pain is suggested, but not depicted…Makes for a stronger piece I think.
The Greeks really knew what they were doing, when they invented that technique of letting the spectator create and finish the painful, gory and bloody details of a work in their own imaginations…Nothing more powerful than ones own imagination…If one has one that is…

This one is GREAT! It looks like its actually happening somehow.

Hi Glenn,

Here are those boxing photos I shot on assignment so many years ago. Sorry for the horrible quality … I just borrowed it back from a client of mine who had it and shot it in a hurry so you could get a look at it. They were Nicely reproduced by duotone printing. I hope it serves you as reference for the next stage of your Boxing project!

Cheers,
David

Thank You Mealea…I’m partial to that one myself…It has that Greek Tragedy effect where the power of suggestion is stronger than the actual event…Lets the viewer see things in their own imagination that aren’t shown…A powerful tool in art, if it can be pulled off in a convincing way…I just got lucky on that one…Happens every once in awhile, when you do enough pieces on whatever subject your doing. A huge pile of crap with a couple of diamonds hidden within it, is better than no diamonds at all …LOL

David…Thanks for those photo’s …They will come in handy for sure, i’m sure…I like the lighting contrast and compositions, and will try to incorporate some of those elements into the next pieces that I do …Thanks Again Man :+1:small_orange_diamond:)

Trying to develope a technique for a convincing sense of motion in preparation for the next boxing theme that i’m planning on doing…The gym workouts…Will start out with the speed bag workout next. A method of training used to enhance a sense of timing in a boxer.

Watch and listen to the top video on the page in the link above,…and you’ll know what i’m talking about…:D:)

Some more work and experimenting on this boxer gym scene done this morning…Mostly just having some fun with the lighting to see what kind of mood can be created with lighting.

Hi SD.
On this cylindrical shape try some claypolish under geometry palette.
You may also noticed that setting a scene in zb messes perspective camera, what about this? A problem, isn’t it?
Interesting composition-concept though.

DEC. 18, 2011

Thanks Michalis…:)…Not sure what you mean by zb messes perspective camera :qu:…I used the thick plane tool that comes with ZBRUSH to make the gym room for this last one…I had alot better luck than the first try where I used just the regular thin plane…Regular plane tool is too thin…walls disapear when spun around and viewed from different angles…Not happening with the thick plane tool…
Interior scenes, and the perspectives that go with them is not my strong point,…but hopefully I will get and have a better feel for them by the time I finish with this gym scene series that i’m attemting at present…Just pushing myself to learn my unfamilars and stenghten my weaknesses so I can create what my minds eye actually see’s…Time will tell if i’m sucessful in this endevor or not…Ether way,…it’s always a fun challenge trying…
I will work more on that speed bag, the swevel it hanges from, and the the cylinder platform they attach to as I go along…for sure.
I also want to put a boxing body bag and a guy punching it,…maybe another guy skipping rope, and maybe even another doing bench presses with weights…all of the routines that go on in a boxing gym…Maybe even a full size mirror on one of the walls, like they have in dance studios…Will give me something to work on while I try to figure out all of the new features that ZBRUSH keeps coming up with… BIG emphasis on the word TRY…

An interior scene using BPR?
Better avoid this. BPR is fine but not for the job. A mask exporting and a combination in Ps or Painter is more wise.
Hey SD, let’s not make things more complicated than they are.

I can’t even imagine you getting involved with exporting technics and learning complicated advanced render engines like cycles. You may surprise me one day, you never know.

A merry christmas SD. Have fun. Always.
Be an artist, inspiring and inspired, always.

BTW these last interiors gave me an idea, I may try something. What about just the wireframe of this room? Just saying.

Hi Glenn,

All the best for the Holidays and a Healthy and Joyous New Year!

Check out the SSS on Bianca’s ear!

Hi Glenn,

That’s looking good … however the speed bag is too low unless thats a 6’ 8" fighter! Cheers, David

speedBag.jpg

Thanks David…Your right…:+1:…For now,I just grabbed one of the Mohammad Ali scuptures that I did earlier and stuck him in there…I don’t know if i’ll keep him for this scene…If I do, i’ll have to straighten him up so that if I make him smaller, his gloves will be at the right angle to hit the bag…I’ll probably end up making a whole new figure with a better pose for the action, and have taped hands instead of gloves…Just trying to get the room built for now, and some kind of dramatic lighting setup going on,…which is turning out to be harder than I thought it would be…but i’ll get it right …just a matter of alot of trial and error as always…:D…Hey ,…Thanks for the nice photo by the way…another one that will be useful as I go along…Really like the lighting in those earlier ones you sent me…been keeping that kind of lighting in the back of my mind as I work on this piece…makes for a nice mood for this subject…:):+1:
Glenn

Hi Glen,

You are welcome! That last photo however was not mine, I just grabbed it from a video on Youtube. Let me know if you need any help/advice with this as you progress.

All the best,

To ChalkMan…Thanks for the support and offer of help David…Really…Much appreciated and welcomed…:):+1:…An experianced and good pair of extra eyes is always a valued asset…Feel free to sound off anytime you see something that’s off…It’s easy to get sidetracked, lose sight and blinded by a subject at times, for anyone, includeing myself :D…Nice to have someone whose judgement is trusted to steer you straight when it’s needed…Thanks :+1:small_orange_diamond:)
