New Works in Progress - Adam Bolton

please move all wips to the back of the row and work on the lady her expression is just fantastic

thanks for the comments on the stylized stuff, I’m liking where those are going, too, and I have a few more ideas for new ones. I don’t quite know what I’m going to do with them yet, tho. I want to produce illustrative still for each model. I know what I’m going for with the medicine man, so I’ll do that first (it was the first model I started working on too.) I’m trying to replicate an old photo, so it will hopefully be hard to tell if it really is an old photo or not. Its been done before, but it works for this piece. tell me what you think of the first test, and anything I can do to increase realism. Thanks!

Hey adam i like your stylized way of sculpting but the only thing that really bothers me me is your ear on your old guy i know when i first started to get in to realistic sculpting i found the ear the most difficult this thread should help you it is a great forum its sole purpose is anatomy it should help you get the anatomy down i hope this helps a bit http://www.theartofanatomy.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5
by the way i really like all the fine details you have put in to the old man it has a sense of wait also which is good but i do recommend fixing the ear.

hey, thanks for the link troy. i do see what you mean about the ear, I didn’t really touch it much. I was thinking of the models in terms of stills, so I didn’t devote much time to the ears, because they are taking up like 50 pixels. Next time I do a bust or a close up I’ll give more attention to the ears…

Hi, very well,:+1:
I’m curious about the 2d touch on the ancient photo; could you share some tips or a resized psd file, only for study.
Thank’s

awesome work! that chick is awesome…nice style.

Thanks, marciani and skinnybonez. I don’t think I nailed the old look yet. I’m always reluctant to take detail out of an image on purpose, but those old photos are really low contrast. to get the photo border and the wear around the edges, i just ripped that right out of an old photo you can probably find on google, and chopped it to fit my image. Then I just clone stamped out the image that was there. I used a series of effects to get the look of the render, including blending modes and multiple zbrush renders with different materials and light sources. And then it was just a matter of tweaking the levels, contrast and saturation. I havn’t treated the background yet or finalized the camera angle, I’ve got a better idea in mind for the angle and background, but I don’t know when I’ll get around to it.

I’m looking for a job right now and that’s taking a lot of time away from actually working, sadly.

I’m updating my website and I wanted to make a few touches to this image, so here is the final, as far as I’m concerned.

awesome model and renders :+1: :+1: :+1:

I updated my website. As of today, I’m looking for full-time employment!

Outstanding! :+1: :+1:

If you ever thought to go back to it, the knees could use some roughening texture-wise. Knees & elbows, as they flex, tend to develop wrinkles. Match 'em up with the knuckles…

thanks markkens! I really should do that if I can bring myself to go back to it. Also I should draw in eyebrows :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I started something new tonight to record a time-lapse, and zbrush crashed after an hour, so I am just going to post a w.i.p. of it. I’ll finish this next because everyone loves wrinkles and SSS and I’ll get to practice that as well as some Maya rendering. let me know what you think

great model :+1: :+1:

I really like your stylistic models 2 and 3: great dymamic in the pose and a very personal style :+1: :+1: :+1:

About the old man, the attitude is very nice too and the old post-card illustration is a good idea.
I don’t know if you think to make changes to it , but may be with less specular on your model, we’ll get a more realistic impression…

And the last model is… waaow!
Hope to see more WIPS! Super work!!!

Great style!!! I just love it :+1: :+1:

Thx for your explication.

Bye

Great works!!!

I want to say thanks to everyone who’s been watching the thread and the people who have posted. Mike, Marciani, David, Sylvia, Remib, markkens, and the other great artists who have commented on my work.

I have been in the process of moving to the LA area this past week, which is why no new work. I will be working furiously (outside of a part time job.) to get a bunch of bust sculpts done, textured, and rendered in Maya. I will be looking for a job as a freelance concept sculptor and zbrush modeler when I get to Cali, and everyone wants to see realistic texture work.

We just got a car to take us the 1400 miles to CA. An '88 Volvo named Rhonda. The previous owner bought it with a bucket of green paint thrown over the hood and “Rhonda” scratched into the paint. (It’s since been repainted…oh well.) Enough rambling. I just wanted to tell anyone who’s watching, why there havn’t been any new updates. I’m going to start churning it out as soon and my girlfriend and I get settled in California.

Thanks again,
`Adam

Now thats what I call a creative use of ZBrush. You have three models with very different personalities and style. I like the way you have used exaggeration in the high fashion and Sci fi figure. I enjoyed your work.

Hello all! I made it back to California and I’m officially looking for full-time work.
