Well Scott just posted a sample chapter and there’s some content preview in the Sybex website. I don’t see a lot of bookstores carry ZBrush related books anyway, at least in North America. You’re better off ordering from AMAZON.
Hmm Im not sure why they wouldn’t. I know Borders and Barnes and Noble stock based on region. For example the 3D section was huge in the LA stores compared to ones in Atlanta.
Check out the sample chapter. I will also try to post the introduction video from the DVD in the other thread as well.
Cheers!
Scott
Yeah, the Chicago stores usually have a huge 3D section too. Even some of the suburban stores have large 3D selections. I had no problem finding your first book, so that’s why I was a little confused. Oh well, no biggie. I’m 99% sure I’m going to buy it regardless, so I’ll just order it.
I got the first book at Barnes & Noble here in Louisville, KY, but they don’t have the new one, nor does Borders. I’m about to order it from Amazon now, though. Very excited to study this, as your last book was extremely helpful. I’m finishing a boxing sculpt and could use the anatomy lessons.
Mr Scott Spencer, thank you
I received my book yesterday evening from Amazon (I’m impressed by them btw, I ordered in France and since they forwarded my order to amazon.uk to be able to serve me in time). Anyway, as soon as I got the book I couldn’t resist and started to go through it, one word, wonderful. The way it’s done it will be not only possible to follow and make the whole figure but also to take a particular chapter afterward and use it to practice a “problem area” separately. It seems to be possible to pick up the anatomy on the way too which will be very useful for a person like me, without real artistic training. One more ting I was worried but seems to be a non issue, I’m really a beginner in zbrush (I bought it for Christmas in fact), I only have "introduction to zbrush 3 and the second volume of eat3D zbrush behind me (both excellent) but even so, it seems I will have no issue to follow your book, which make me even more happy
As another person mentioned, I really, really hope you will have the time and opportunity to make the female anatomy equivalent to this book. I already know, that even if in the meantime I wil, have learned a lot (at least I hope, it takes a lot of time to write a book), I already know I will buy it because I’m sure there will be things for me to learn in it (axtually, I just ordered your character creation one).
Sorry for my bad English, and again, thank you for taking the time to write this book

Got my copy this morning. looking forward to looking at it tonight.
Scott this is brilliant, literally one of the best anatomy books I’ve read
Thanks for sharing with the community, looking forward to going through all of it!
Well now, this looks to be a cracking book. Incredibly detailed work on anatomy. Looking forward to doing something with it.
I’m going to buy it based off this post alone. You clearly know what you’re talking about.
Look forward to getting it.
The book`s simply awesome! I cannot say enough good things about it. If you´re serious about anatomy and sculpting, this book is a must-have!
5 out of 5 stars
Just curious about everyone else’s progress with teh book, what chapter are you all at now? I just finish making the ZSphere figure. Although I must admit, I still had to take Mr. Spencer’s zsphere figure and append it to the one I made to make absolutely sure my proportions were correct. Hope ya don’t Mr. Spencer.
hah I don’t mid at all! I expected many people would work from the figures included but I think its awesome you are working into the first chapter and building it all on you own. Thats the best way to learn!
I hoped it would be used that way
Drop me a message or post a question if you run into any problems. I’m more than happy to try and help!
Cheers
Scott
I think I’m going to go ahead and use a skinned zsphere figure for the rest of the lessons instead of a boxman like the book/videos suggests. Will this be okay?
Absolutely! Just be sure to use the head measure guide with it. Also make sure its a ZSphere figure and not a Unified Skin from a ZSketch. You will want your multiple subD levels.

It might be a good idea to start a thread in which we would post our progress, not in the “mine is better than yours” spirit, but to get each others inputs, inputs from more advanced users, and maybe, when he has some free time (I know, he is most probably a busy man, and besides, he will be even busier writing the female pendant of this book for us
) from Scott.
I am a complete beginner with zbrush (bought it for Christmas) and I only picked up the necessary skills to follow the book, so I tend to stay away from the main forum (as a poster I mean, of course I visit it to enjoy the artwork shown). I really think that getting better not only has to do with learning (which is obvious) but also getting the constructive critic from people more trained than us to spot errors.
What do you think ?

I’m mostly just Reading it at the moment as I’m in the middle of a piece of work at the moment. However when I finish that I intent to work my way through from the very beginning. And am looking forward to it.
Working on the head stage at the moment, not looking ‘exactly’ like in the book but I’m refining it as much as possible
Also I second the idea for a book on studying and creating the female anatomy
One thing I’d say is use the videos as much as you can in conjunction with the book, they really help out.
I’m waiting for mine to come…I should have gotten next day shipping.
Heehee, I live near the AMAZON.CA distribution warehouse actually. Still have to wait 2 days at most for my book orders though.
I saw a link on amazon for a second edition of the first book, ZBrush Character Creation: Advanced Digital Sculpting.
It says it’s been adjusted for Zbrush 4?
