Believe it or not , its the same system Im about to purchase except the graphics card. I have read so many times that ATI cards are great for games , But Nvidia are the cards for 3d work? So I am still trying to find the Nvidia 6800 GT as it still has the edge and if not a pair of 7600 gt . still hunting for advice ,except for the cpu. Of which I have read articles till it bored me silly and I am totally going for it as are you. Before it came out I was after the Amd 64 dual 4600 , but then the Bang for buck hit me. Good luck in priceing up your goods, as Im finding it hard to get what I want cheaper then buying one already made up ! It used to be cheaper in the UK to build your own but not now it seems ! If your in the UK ,Id be interested as to where you can get that spec for less then £750.00 ? Ive read many reviews of the retailers in the UK and yep , theres lots of complaints about many of them. As I said all the best :+1:

I don’t see backup. You need an external drive and a good backup software. Otherwise you will look rather silly with 640GB of data down the fritzzzzzzzzz. And facing a couple of weeks of reinstalling software stinketh as well.

I use:
http://www.emcinsignia.com/?gclid=CPC4ysL0mYgCFRGXFQodHHxvcA

And I backup my mac, two desktops and two laptops with it. I had total disk loss on every laptop over it’s life time and one major loss on one of the desktops.

It is not a matter of IF but of WHEN you will loose everything. And nothing nicer than plopping the backup in and restoring everything while relaxing.

PS:As backup drive I’d go for a 1TB external firewire. Peace of mind. Just only power up and connect it when you actually back it up every night after you are done working on it.

Monitor? mouse?
Only partially kidding, get the biggest one you can ( monitor)

I am from the U.S. and it seems i will be spending about $1,800.00
on the parts you see listed.
I have heard the same about ATI being better for games and Nvidia
is better for 3d. I heard the 3d Software cards are way more expensive
and you will see very little difference. “True”?

I have had the same thing happen to me.I had a WD 250gig
internal harddrive with everything i have collected over the years on it,
burn up on me.

I now have
Internal - 1 WD 80gig BootDrive, 1 WD 80gig Storage, 1 WD 250gig Storage
External - 1 WD 500gig

My intensions were to backup everything on the external and unplug it.
But the problem is that i still edit my files on my internal drives and
I have no idea which one’s are backed up and which are not.
So i have been plugging in the 500gig, deleting everything, then
copying everything over to it each time i want to backup.
As you can imagine, this is terrible.I know there is a way to mirror
the drives but then i would have to leave the external plugged up.
“Not safe”
Any solutions to this would be wonderful!
