Great image and progression.
Really looking forward to using ZSketcher, I’ve never tried it before.
I just discovered your Zsketcher, I love it! Here is a little abastract sketch I did using it, and in keeping with your Native American Theme (a subject near and dear to my heart)… here is The Brave.
Vibrant use of colors and nice pastel feel!
Great pic, and thanks for sharing!
Really great 2D work Glen!
I love the expression on his face…
Wonder what is in his piece pipe?
Those eyes are great! I realy like this piece
great pic,awesome work!!!
Great as usual, Glen!
Question: Is the first image the actual beginning or did you start with a sketch and then block in color on top.
Just curious, since lately I’ve been experimenting with having an image emerge from blocked in shapes, rather than filling in an outline from a sketch. Sort of like a blurred image that you keep bringing into focus.
thanks,
Adam
love the style, too nice Southern
I’d like to know the answer to Adam’s question as well. I’ve been doing a lot of 2D Painter-type stuff recently.
Hi Adman,
No pencil style sketch at all on this one. In fact, I didn’t even know what it would be when I started painting.
Stange that you mention it but I have been working on just what you describe. I unfocus my eyes and paint with blocks of colour and slowly refine it. I have been forcing myself to do 5 minute speed paints everday just to get in the habit, not allowing myself any more time in that session. It is amazing how it has changed my style. I am very much a pencil/ink line man and colour inside the lines. Looking at the work of Spooge Demon (Craig Mullins) over at Sijun has opened me up to a new way of working.
I am using ZBrush more and more as a sketch pad type program for a number of reasons.
- I like my new ZSketcher and the tools I’ve created with alphas.
- I like ZBrush Smudge better than Painters or Photoshops as ZBrush doesn’t hang at all when I’m doing big images.
- ZBrush doesn’t have layers when working on 2D and it makes me plan my painting better.

So the Glen lesson
Day after day, hours after hours, again and again training and training!
And Zbrush will can help you for painting with his magic tool!
Fill the canvas with a color(for disapear the black background)
Zadd Off Rgb Only Alpha as you want
You can quasi all to paint with just the smudger tool!
When you press Ctrl the smudger = normal brush + color choice
So when you unpress Ctrl you can re-smudging immediatly for mix the color!
It’s like the technic of real painting!
And press “S” for the Size brush
Now you are as Leonardo Da Vinci or Glen
Have happy painting!

Ps Load the ColorQuick Script (inside the prog)by Aurick
and put any palett on the canvas for minimize the way of the mouse (or pen graphic)
The tip is here
awesome sketches glen! i have only tried your zsketcher briefly and i love it! your work is always so inspiring! i especially like these more human-like sketches! great technique and great result! zbrush has so many features, it is goingto take me years to explore them all!
Frenchy, thanx for the brief walkthrough. i think that will really help us beginners!

… and all of a sudden: there was no place for some hands !!
The cause for this (not the absence of hands): normally I would have done this with painter, but I like the way that your pencil case, glen, takes away all those nifty and not needed gimmicks that made painter ugly (in my opinion)!!
.
It was done by smearing paint onto the background , and then taking up color off that background to paint. Added some highlights & shadows, used different alphas.
Done without a plan - and maybe I finish it sometimes, correcting the results of not knowing what would come out of fooling around.
Anyway and again: thank you for the pencil case!!!
really nice ZereBrush !!
looks good Zerebrush
…thank you Fouad & King >>> what I just found out: you can adjust the smudge in the pencil case to actually not only smear around, but to PAINT!!! Depending on your settings you can add some very “gentle” layers of color - why did not anybody mention THIS a bit earlier???
Hi Zerebrush
Just look my post 2 posts above your nice painting
Hope this help!
Pilou
@Pilou: saw this, a bit late I confess !
(& I don’t trust anybody that is STILL in demo-mode
!!!)
Just kidding, you know…!!
Hi Zerebrush
I suppose that Glen is not in Demo mode but me, I am still in
Demo-using is a frame of mind
Nobody is perfect
Pilou
Ps “Pencil case” is a script for facility the use of brushes,
but you can make all the same directly in Zbrush
It’s not jaleousy than the Glen Script is terrific
(in fact yes, scripting is also a very gratifiant thing to do but we have just one life alas
