Nanny Ogg's rendering and compositing challenge

Cherub-rock
really Rock!

Thank you guys for your support, looking forward to see what you come up with

Nice!, I’ll try to make a nice comp of it

Great!

Hi there, did a Modo test, still new at Modo and had a few issues, some maps just to high Modo started crashing… I am sure that ZB4 will fix thia via GoZ… that is when I eventually get it…

Regards Ziggy

Wow man! I love what you’ve done with it! Especially the pearls and the clothes are crazee  :+1: You can size the maps down i photoshop for example.

Really happy that you’re joining in

Did that… and eventually got this out… would love to play around more… but time is always a problem…

Thanks Ziggy

Hi,

Saw this challenge and did a quick render in maya/vray. Nanny Ogg is taking her morning walk in the woods. Would of been easier if we had 32 bit displacement maps, I had to guess alpha gain values for each displacment object. Also Vray didn't like the tangent normal maps you supplied. It was like it bumped the surface too much like you had used contrast on the map in photoshop. So it look like the surface was breaking. I fixed it by adding the background color ontop of the normal map in ps with 50%. I would recommend exporting 32 bit displacement maps and use xNormal for your normal maps next time. Other than that it was a fun challenge :) Regards Johan [](http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/faq.php?faq=vb_read_and_post#faq_zbc_display_images)[![nannyOgg_forest_PAL_001A_jovi.jpg|1024x576](upload://ms7Rxz960TrAAEbPCUsHwEuXiEr.jpeg)]

Thank you so much for your critique, I’m still getting it, so I was hoping someone would say what is wrong  And thank you so much for participating. I see you added a couple of additions! Great work, I’m in love with it  I’ll be back on the 19th here to pick up all the entries and give them to the jury.

Best regards
Dmitrij

Hi Dmitrij,

Have you got ZBrush 4 yet, I haven’t, if you have why not use this exercise as a test, use the newer features and repost… hereby we’ll all be able to see the improvements of ZB4 on different platforms…

Just and idea…

Ziggy

Hello Ziggy

It’s a great idea (I’ve already rendered it in Z4, not very happy though, you can see it in my thread, second to last page now). The thing is that this challenge is going on other 3d forums, and Z4 wasn’t available at the time, and that was purposefully to fill in the gap before the siggraph goodies start preoccupying everyone, I think it worked out very well. But definitely would share the ztool if there would be people interested so we all find out more about the possibilities of bpr. Perhaps another ztool though not to get bored with the same one  And it doesn’t have to be mine either.

Best wishes
D

Crap! I forgot about this. I wanted to try out some render techniques but i just started tonight. I only had a couple hours tonight to put this together but i wanted to give it a go. The skins not the best but here’s what i have so far. Fun model to work with, wish i would have started sooner. Thanks for the assets!

Dejan Kober: „Plus: The author has tried to create an appropriate feel, and has relatively succeeded. Minus: The lack of details on the face, poor skin material seems more like stone than skin. The lighting could do with more liveliness and variety. The smoke coming out of the pipe is unnatural and „artificial“. Would be better without it. Brajan Martinović: „I'm not sure where have all the wrinkles and the bump gone? Looks like the author made an effort for the hag to get to the cover of Cosmo :) It's all very smooth. And the shadow of the hat blackens a big portion making it dull. Certainly no more than one light source here, incomplete materials, boring background, bad smoke, better there weren't any. Toni Bratinčević: „First thing I notice is that this entry is missing GI, which would come in handy to fill in the overly dark parts. The position of light is very interesting because it covers the right eye which shines in the dark a little...a sense of split personality :) The background could definitely be a bit more interesting, although not in focus still plays a big part in the overall look. Noticable lack of sss and specular on the skin. Closing word from Brajan: [font=Wingdings] „Hmmm, a sad turnout. A lot of people on vacation this time of year, probably why. This competition presented a good example how it's not enough to turn on mental ray and global illumination and expect it'll do all the job for you. Sluggards :)

Thanks for the win  I completely agree with the crits that was given so good work there! I thought it was a fun competition, so please do more of them. Let me know if you need any help with exporting the maps for next time.

Best wishes,
Johan

Congratulations Griml0ck! I myself was most pleased what you did with it as well. As you know I’m not big on rendering, and I don’t know even how to bake some maps out (such as spec for example), moreso how to use them the right way… Hope it’ll change though as soon as I’m pretty satisfied with my sculpting skills I’ll give myself to the rendering tutorials.

Once again, thanks for your help, I might take you up on that in the future  And congratulations! P.S. if you’d like I’ll send you the ztool.
