A while back I had won a Sculpteo 3D Print from a challenge on CGTrader. This allowed me to check out their printing resolution, which came out pretty good for a 2.9 inch height model. Secondly, it allowed me to test out how thin I could shell him. The entire model is printed with a 1.2mm shell.

I would like to thank my great friend and photographer, Chia-Hao Liu, for these amazing photos. You can view more of his work at chiahaoliu.com.

Wow he came out great!! Very nice work. Love this model and especially love how it turned out!

What was your process for this? did you have to do it manually?

cool work!

huangshangyu, Clintus Maximus, thank you! Dargelos, here is the tutorial I used for shelling in ZBrush: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFgbGN_VphY&list=UUxv1JYddOaVPZB0FQGoM7mA&index=3

Here is the first pass of an 8" Centaur kit. He is made up of 11 fitted parts glued together that are medium quality. However you can see from the individual parts from the second print that the resolution is much better, and was happy with the White Polished parts from Shapeways. I am looking to have the Kit available at 7.5 inches in Spring. Special thanks again to my great friend and photographer Chia-Hao Liu for taking such amazing photos!

C/C welcome, more info available at CGmodeling.com/centaur_print

your print came out beautifully! very dynamic pose
im curious how well the print fit together? did you have to sand any pieces down to get a better fit?

Thank you battlemonkey! I couldn’t have been happier when it was so well balanced. And the new print quality is much higher second time around.

No, nothing has to be sanded down. The pegs cutting out of the parts are slightly inflated to the pegs fitting in. They fit well, however there main purpose is to keep the pieces fitting while gluing together.

what tutorial did you use for making the lock and key parts of the model?

Wow! The print came out fantastic!

You said its from Shapeways? Thats pretty great quality. White/flexible? Thank you for the shelling youtube link!

Everything about this post is ‘off the chain’! Presentation the Centaur, the model, the photography…wow!
I wonder what 3d printer was used?

Wonderful! It looks perfect!

Love the pose.

Despicably awesome works my friend, I simply fell in love with the hollow Venom z sculpt, and to share with all of us your knowledge in 3d printing is a true gift to. Thank you and keep on Rocking it.

Hi Michael,
Great! wonderful sculpture, pose, 3d print

Hockey14, no tutorial. It is just a cube with a widened base placed where I thought it would best lock. Then I duplicate the cube, give it a very slight inflation and use Dynamesh to subtract it from the opposite piece.

Cllintus Maximus, thank you and your welcome! The assembled piece is the standard White, Strong & Flexible parts from Shapeways which came out pretty good. The new parts (I’m actually gluing them together right now) are White, Strong & Flexible Polished and came out awesome. The resolution on the Polished is much better, and was really happy with the second prints.

HEWHOPAINTS, thank you! My Friend Chia-Hao Liu is an amazing photographer.

Nebular, Thank you!

ryankingslien, thank you! Honored, glad you like the Centaur

VoroN-Art, thank you, and love your Wolf print
