Awesome sculpts man!! those kids are priceless
I for one would love to know your light setup/render settings
ROFL you shoulld 3d print these…
Theses are wonderful. I got to ask how do you do the inner mouth? (teeth tongue ect…) Love the yawning boy and the girl! Please do a video.
FYI: today is Norman Rockwell’s Birthday. They did a tribute to him on Google. When I saw that, I instantly thought about your recent sculpts. That has got to feel good people are comparing you to him. Keep it up dude!
Love those expressions you’ve given them, especially the yawning kid and the girl with her toung sticking out. Something just really captivating and ‘classical’ about the way you sculpt, they just feel so much more alive then most 3d art.
Will b keeping an eye on this thread in hopes that can expect to see more work like this
wow woww wowww…
Very nice! The gestures are perfect. How long does it take to do one? Do you use ref at all.
Beautiful and funny at the same time
I’m really happy that you guys find these doodles inspirational, and like them so much. thank you all so much for your really warm responses!
it is flattering to get so much attention from all of you ! thanks!
Parker Nelson - thanks! I’m glad that you find that tip helpful. i think it helps a lot if you can ease from trying to make things perfect at the first attempt, but experiment with your work using asymmetrical strokes, tweak and pull it a lot even if you don’t want to give specific expression to the face.
hymire- thanks! i didn’t plan to texture them, but maybe some time…
Energise- i’m not very good at rendering, dandan (my bf) did the renders. about the lighting he said its just a simple 3 point lighting, and a hdri, really nothing fancy.
Sebcesoir- i plan to print some cg work later, but it has to be something special for the first one :).
daugaard47- thanks for the opened mouth kids i used the same basemesh, with only one difference: i cut an extra circular edge loop there to have enough polygons to pull the inner mouth in. then in zbrush i tried to find the shape of the hole, then placing the gums. it needed a lot of masking and hiding, but it’s not such a devilish procedure. if i have time i will try to put together a little video-tutorial about making another kid like these.
anyway, im a big fan of Norman Rockwell’s work, and i hope some day i can make such intense artworks too
PolyHertz -thank you! really flattering
sonn- i can’t tell you exactly how long did it take to sculpt them, because sometimes i had only an hour to sit down to work with them, sometimes i didn’t have any time for weeks so i don’t remember exactly. next time i will check it
i did use a mirror to check a lot of things on my face - what muscle moves, all the pushing and pulling of the flesh, how the skin folds. and for the girl i had to google some kid references for the shoulder area because it was a little hard to figure out what is happening at the clavicle area. a lot of times i try out this poses to see whats going on under the skin. i try to watch not only by seeing, but to feel how my muscles work and how the shapes change.
and thaks for all of your comments
