Microsoft Surface Pro

Thanks poda,
That modbook pen looks really nice, im pretty sure thats the stylus that the artist - Landis Fields uses, and it would most probably be my choice favorite, looks like quality.
Its a pity the wacom feel bamboo carbon only has one button because it looks nice to hold being a bit chunky-er than the others.

cheers.

Get the new Cintiq Companion 2 just announced by Wacom. More processor power, twice as much RAM (16gb instead of 8gb), buttons on unit, Wacom technology…

I just got back from CES, and I got to play with the Cintiq companion 2! It was ****ing great. I never touched the original Companion but the Companion 2 was perfectly thin, I thought the shape was excellent. I had some video and pictures but vegas decided to ruin my cell phone and I lost them all… But I will say that I’m buying one asap.

The guy at the booth told me they’d be shipping in two weeks, but I can’t find a way to preorder or buy them yet, and he didn’t know when the online store would start selling them.

Good to hear. Will you be getting the 16 gb RAM version?

They should be available for pre-order next month (February). They won’t ship until spring.

Everyone do you think the i5 version with 8gigs ram will be good for Zbrush.

Can anyone offer an opinion on the surface 2 pro versus 3? I’ve been looking at the pro 3, but that price is tough to swallow.

I’m mainly looking at ease of use, I don’t want to plunk down a lot of money and find that it’s a gimmick or the workflow isn’t practical.

I still got the first one and i use it now and then. Good machine for the price (except battery life) so i’m sure the surface 2 will be good as they enhanced the battery.
I’m not using it on a daily basis though because i find it more practical to sculpt on an intuos 3 / big screen / keyboard but anyway surface + artdock is a good option if you don’t have a lot of money to throw at a wacom device or surface 3.

Lots of great info in this thread!
I just got a SP3 i5… Awesome tip on RadialMenu, Gary.M :+1: I’d be lost without it!

It looks like i’m only going to be getting 4hrs or so with zbrush. This seems low according to reviews i’ve seen claiming 7 to 9hrs. I don’t have a keyboard or anything connected, have wifi off, and screen brightness turned down fairly low… Does that sound about right for battery life when running ZBrush? I can deal with it, but want to have it replaced if it sounds like i may have a bad unit?

Please advise so i can get it exchanged if necessary :sunglasses: Thanks!!

On this device zbrush runs very well, 5mil poly were np .

obviously the newest will be best
but what will make it not work

will a surface pro 1 with 1.7ghz 4gig ram 50gig hdd do it?

I’m looking to pull the trigger on one but I need to know what is gonna cut it or not

if anyones happy running zbrush on the surface of any make and model please fill us in on which model and the specs

im gonna get the sp3 256gig ssd with 8 gig ram 1.9ghz
I feel comfortable that will be sufficient and should have spectacular resolution at 2160 x 1440 on a 12inch screen

Ok so I’m posting from my sp3
Got the z all setup looking like it’ll do what I want but that artdock as some others have found completely disables the device I got ride of it and looking for another

I love this for sculpting
I went from a bamboo to sp3 and its spectacular

Radial menu is the way to go

I’m off and sculpting

I have the Surface Book and am no way enjoying it.

  1. My last windows was windows 7 so upgrade to windows 10 is a huge change for me.
  2. Pressure sensitivy and lag is a big issue right now while I’m using Zbrush and Photoshop. Its a HUGEEE LAG!
  3. While using Zbrush, lag and pressure sensitivity isn’t the only issue, I also don’t know how to use buttons.
ie: Shift, CTRL, brush change button the pencil etc.

I’m using the stock driver if theres any driver. Does anyone have suggestions? Or anyway to help me? Will WACOM drivers work?

Im gonna go out on a limb and say this kinda happens with everything’s first release xbox1 surface pro ipad
Windows etcetcetc

Im definitely getting asurface book for zbrush, im just gonna wait for all the. Bugs to get fixed

Also get the radial menu you’ll love it

I’ll try the radial dial, but where do you get that specifically for zbrush? Or the recommended one?
I guess I’m going to have to wait it out until Surface Book gets fixed. Meanwhile…what do I do with it lol.
I bought it mainly for photoshop and zbrush, but neither one works well.

KOoThe radial menu is universal works with all programs, its a live touch button toolbar

In the mean time id sell the surface book while its value is still high save up and wait for a few generations of surfacebooks to come out

I had an surface pro 3 and loved it for zbrush only wanting the surface book for the bigger screen, I may end up with the sp3 again either way I loved it
