Incredible sculpts! Congrats on the top row!

Very nice work.

I have a story about David’s Death of Marat which you might be interested in.

I used to work for part of the Madame Tussaud’s organisation and at one point the Tussaud’s studio recreated for us her original travelling exhibition from the beginning of the 19th century. All of the display figures on show were cast from her original moulds. There was a section of that show devoted to The Terror and the Revolution and in it we had the complete scene of the murdered Marat in his bath, exactly as in the painting. According to the Tussaud’s archivist, the mould was cast from the real body shortly after the murder. That wasn’t an uncommon thing for the young Marie Grosholtz (later Mme Tussaud) to have to do at that frightening time - she also cast important heads from the guillotine. I should say that this was only done for dead subjects, the portraits of live subjects were always done as a clay sculpture, from which a plaster mould would be taken and the wax was cast from that.

Anyway, from what I was told, a wax figure was made from the Marat death cast mould and J-L David created the famous painting from that. I was also told that, many years later, another cast from the mould was used to help in establishing forensic science, because it preserved the evidence of the stabbing and the effect on the muscles of the way the body lay, as well as showing some of the scarring caused by the skin disease Marat suffered from.

Hope that wasn’t too gruesome a diversion.

Really good work. How are you layering the hair in hollow man and did it take long to do?

Thanks

FANTASTIC JOB!!!:+1:

Great eye to detail and form.

keep up the great work!

cheers!

Amazing work man, really great  I have to ask how the hair was done? I see you used poly sheets for the hair - did you use quite a refined alpha map to get those nice strands? Thanks!

To Plaything:Really Thanks for your concern of my work, and that story you told me is really incredible! Of course, I have heard something even more horrible, for instance, some aritst used the body of condemneds to create some artwork, I mean, not just used mould, but real flesh. But this happened long long ago, I can’t believe that act still exist nowadays.
Anyway, it should be very difficult to represent the difference between a living figure and a fresh corpse. That is too subtle to capture. If one day I will show WIP of it, you will be MY TEACHER!

To Philly13 and blueisland : Thanks for your comment! I do use the sheets for the hair. And that is one of the flaws of my work, it looks not realistic.I do used various of Alpha maps to achieve the best effect I could. Usually, there are three kinds of maps, one for the front part,as you can see, they are straight. One is for the temples, and the other is for the back of hair. The last two kind of map ,they’re curly and very thin.It took me about one and a half day to finish. When you have kinds of alpha map, you can spent less time on your next one.

you have what looks like complex mesh arrangements for the hair, how did you go about accomplishing that?

wow! so real. good job!:+1:
