Alright, little video I exported during lunch, hope this helps a bit
It has been some time since your video post, but it is better late than never: Thank you so much! Your tips have been of great help
lovely work mike!
What do you mean with smart transpose and Alpha? Nice helmet
Oh and I would love to see the timelapse video, even without any audio it would be interesting.
Thanks
Oh I was wondering who’s was the helmet that featured in the new dDo video Quixel announced a while back! This is the one right? Awesome! Thx also for all your Eat3d-tutorials, those were the ones that I started with when I started with zBrush! One of the best tutorials still around. This helmet inspired me when I saw the quixel-video, Im working on something similar also atm Thx for the inspiration and all the stuff I learned with your tutorials!
that’s really amazing ! Thanks for sharing !
I’ve learned a lot from it
Sorry for the resurrected thread, but I was organizing files and found the time lapse videos of the helmet creation. Here’s the playlist for anybody interested, with commentary:

In your brush menu, choose smart transpose instead of transpose, load an alpha up, and ctl+drag it on your mesh (remember you can use spacebar to reposition the alpha). Best masking placement ever!
And thanks for the kind words everybody!
Awesome! I don’t have the courage yet to try hard-surface in zbrush (someday), but I love watching other people skilled at it do their magic. Thanks a lot for sharing!
EDIT:
So I just watched the whole thing. It was fantastic to see, even if I only managed to follow about 60-70%. You have an easy manner of relating info, very down-to-earth. I’m also amazed at how few brushes/tools you actually use - cutting panel lines with just default standard? Madness!

You’ve got the ZBrush chops, just jump in there lol! Besides the refining stuff, it’s not much different than an organic sculpt during the concept phase, just a little more polish and trim. Starting out I was a bit slower moving through shapes, but after a while it really feels no different than sculpting a creature, you just have a new set of items / experiences to bring to an idea.
Also (for me anyway), it’s also kind of fun / rewarding to jump back and forth between say organic / creature stuff and spend some time with accessories / props, then when that gets a little stale switch back to organic and stretch those muscles again. Keeps my mind limber!
hey man! thanks for showing the process, i was pulling my hair every time i saw some hard suface stuff and i wasnt able to do it,
now is much clear,!
How did you go from the HighRes to the GameRes ?
Any step by step Video for that process ?
This trick is amazing!!! I was searching for something completely different and fell into this thread. The masking, polygroup and polish is such a fast method. now I can freeform draw masks and generate great looking extrusions. I was pulling my hair out trying to use make 3d or creating masks in photoshop to bring in. This saves so much time!!!
