Hey Guys,
Thought I would take zspheres 2 for a go this weekend . This is pretty much 2 nights of sculpting . Im amazed at what can be done with zspheres 2 , yet theres alot about it that I dont understand at the moment.Im not even sure my workflow was correct lol
No credits for originality here though , the original sculpture was done by one of my all time favourite sculptors ; Hiroshi Katagiri ! I took a few creative liberties with it though.
I will try to polypaint this chap later on today if I get the time.Hope you like !
Cheers,
Damien

Very nice Wild Boar model!

great work damien ! nice forms…

Hey thats really nice for just a couple nights work…I’m curious to hear your reflections on the process, whether it seemed in the end more or less efficient than simply working from an adaptive or unified skin (or traditional poly)…Something that I’m curious about is, how far were u able to take the form before retopo? I usually prefer to finish out most of the form before retopo, but perhaps u are able to do it quick enough to where it isn’t such an issue…In any case I find these zsphere 2 things kinda fun to mess with, but something like this proves it may be a practical new tool to integrate, so I’m gonna take a second look…

awesome! Great demonstration of zspheres2 in action.

great sculpt as always
looks like a nice approach:D

sweet man! polypainting it?

thank you for your kind comments guys,
@danny ; i’ll try to start polypainting him, but i cant think of the right colours
@josh

here are my findings so far . i have not tested the tool extensively ,keep that in mind .

  • i take it that the practical use of the tool is purely that of conceptual development .its advantage over a basemesh from maya would be that appendages can be added extremely quickly . It will allow the artist to glean a very rough understanding of the characters silhouette , posture etc while investing minimal time . since it may be bound to an underlying zsphere skeleton , having set rotation points of a definite skeletal system in place is great . I can quickly adjust the gesture of the character to my liking , without breaking its set proportions .

  • at this point i have only tried the unified skin out . will try out adaptive soon. unified skins sometimes produce strange results ( again , i doubt i had it set optimally) particularly where perpendicular zphere tubes intersected.some points on the unified skin for the wild boar were unsmoothable / would knot up . i actually had to refine the sculpt quite a bit more in these areas in particular after i retopped and reprojected everything. the unified mesh seemed to be alot ‘heavier’ than it actually was .seemed to be chugging my machine for some reason .

  • if i had a concept in hand , at this point in time i would still use a basemesh . zspheres 2 seems to be a great route to take if i dont really have an established idea ,but even so this could be seen as another plus for zspheres 2 as experimentation with an already set concept can improve its look . at the moment due to my comfort level using the tool(im terribly slow), i would say i can actually add mass to a basemesh faster and more accurately with the clay tubes brush . this will probably change as i get more experiece using it

-its damn fun to use , grafting 2 zspheres together via smoothing is somehow always amazing to me lol. :slight_smile:

feel free to add to what ive got here / tell me its completely idiotic haha

i’ll try out adaptive soon
cheers,
damien

Nice Sculpt… :wink:

Wow, I can’t wait to see the finished Demitri from Darkstalkers!! :eek:

hey guys its been a while !
@wondrousdigital ;thank you man , i will try to work on demitri as soon as i get the time.

heres a new one ive been working on . its a bat monster . this is still not where i want it to be detail wise . all critiques /comments welcome. i was heavily inspired by the work of jordu schell and simon lee ; two of the most amazing creature sculptors evAr!

this is not a self portrait btw ; my ears happen to be tiny
peace and love,
d

COol sculpt man very interesting expression. Cant wait to see the body as well.

Lookin wicked so far! Only thing sticking out to me right now is that his chin kind of looks like it was just glued on as a prosthetic. Maybe just get it to blend a little bit more with the face and that would do the trick! Looking forward to the body man:+1:

looking mean man! love the eyes!:+1:

Cool boar, I like the proportions :slight_smile:
The last head looks great too :slight_smile:

Thanks Fellas!

@Chris : I will post some shots of his body as soon as i get back my real laptop. she is feeling a bit under the weather lately.I cant even open this creature on my loaner laptop lol. instant crash , not enough ram lol

@Greg Hey Dude thanks very much , I didnt even notice that but you are absolutely right.wish i could fix it right now ; it is keeping me from getting a good nights sleep hehe

@Ville Thnks Danny!

@Santis Thnks Man

Okay guys heres another project I am working on . Now that Tobey has been booted from the role I figured it was time for me to do my own casting call lol. Im so afraid no one recognizes him :o, I think i have been staring at it for too long and may have become lost . The thing about this guy is that his weight fluctuates so much between films and during the course of his life, so I get alot of conflicting reference :confused: Any tips to strengthen the likeness would be most appreciated.

Cheers,
Damien

It looks kind of like Bruce Lee as Spider-Man but I’m sure I’m wrong?

How is it that you do not have a front page yet… That spawn is astounding :grimacing:small_orange_diamond:grimacing:small_orange_diamond:grimacing:

Id say it looks like Jackie Chan really… o.O
