Hey guys I’m glad you liked the final results. I had a lot of fun working on the model since It was a nice change of pace from some of the professional work that I’m doing.

hyper1: I pretty much went with reptilian color schemes from lizards and dinosaurs. I did a few quick paintovers to some model images and went with the one I felt most comfortable with.

Nice thread mate, very awesome work. I love the inventive creatures, if I have anything to critique it’s that the “stinger” on your flying creature looks more like a claw or horn the way it attaches to the surrounding skin. Just a little observation. Oh by the way, Goliath rocks and Gargoyles was awesome!

Hey folks, long time no post! Here’s a model that I did for CGHub’s 3d Jam #2 Challenge. The theme of the challenge was to create something nightmarish for Halloween.

The base mesh was done in 3ds max and the sculpt was done in Zbrush.

mkk316: awesome sculpt, love the materials too. Are they your own? The first render was done in 3d Max with standard materials. I ran Zbrush's Decimation Master on it and took it from 12 plus million polygons to around 6 million. I masked off the front and kept most of the high level detail visible for the render. I knew the viewer wouldn't get a shot from the back angle so I optimized that quite heavily. I then set up my lighting and did a few render passes in 3d Max, after which I assembled them in Photoshop and added post and color correction. The second render materials are the from Zbrush. I use the matcap 05 skin for the first render pass and did a second render with the matcap grey. Then I combined them in Photshop to get the look I wanted.
