losing license randomly , having to re-activate

Yes, I am a Win 7 64-bit user. I can try to reinstall all of this, copy my working files back in, etc. Don’t you think this is a bit wonky of a process to put users through?

Are some of you are using non Pixologic plugins, like ZSwitcher or others?
If yes, please remove all the non official plugins and also check that some plugins are not duplicated (like an old 3D Print Exporter and a newer one).

I’m using no plugins aside from those that came with the original install and the GoZ that I had to reinstall, because they didn’t work with 4R2b the first time. I haven’t reinstalled the GoZ with 4R3, but I haven’t tried GoZ yet with it. I’d like to get past this activation issue first. Otherwise, ZBrush is pretty much a waste of time for me.

I have windows 7, 64 bit and regular plugins. I did have trouble deactivating 4r2 and needed a ticket, hardware fail and email recognition problem.

It’s happening to me and I’m only using the standard plugins that come with it.

I finally had a chance in my busy schedule to reinstall ZBrush 4R2b and then go through the Zbrush 4R3 upgrade. So far so good.

I’ll let you know if the reactivation issue pops up again, but meanwhile, what happens when someone’s activation limit is reached? How do we get around this? Is a patch coming soon to fix the issues we’ve addressed so far? Thanks.

UPDATE
Well, it didn’t take long before I’m being asked for my web activation again. I used ZBrush a couple of times, going in and out of GoZ to and from 3DS Max, sometimes exiting ZBrush and BAM! Here it is again. I don’t have time to trouble shoot your product. That’s your job. I’ll go back to using 4R2b until you guys get this fixed. Let me know when it’s ready for prime time, please.

Lovely, now I can’t use your product at all. Thanks to all of this mess with activations I get this:

"You have reached the maximum number of activations for this serial number.
This machine was registered and the license was deactivated on February 29, 2012, however the number of active licenses has reached the maximum alloted for your purchase agreement.

To view this serial number’s activation history and request deactivation of one your computers from technical support, please click on the button below."

…and, of course, you now have to manually deactivate the multiple activations for my 1 machine here, and it has to be done during your normal business hours. I have stuff due tomorrow. Oh well.

Please fix this issue and help me reactivate 4R2b ASAP. Thanks.

Thanks to the support staff for sticking up through my ticket and narrowing down the problem.

Arash @ Draster is aware of the issue now and is actively seeking a solution. However, I am the only one who has reported a problem to their support link. Perhaps there are extenuating circumstances but Pixologic also recreated the problem so I imagine any ZSitcher users out there with the newest version of ZSwitcher ( v. 1.0.3 ) should be experiencing the same activation problems. Please report as much to Drasters support link. So they know the problem is not isolated. I have found their support team to be very responsive and commited to quick fixes once they know of a problem with new updates!

All is well on my machine!

( I did not un-install ZSwitcher, I simple moved the script to my ZSwitcher plug-in: ( the script: ZStartup/ZPlugs/ZSwitcher.zsc into a folder titled defeatPlugin )

Thanks again to the Pixologic support Team! particularly Xavier and Matthew. :+1:

If you can not, deactivate with the web deactivation GUI in zbrush cause yer locked out by the activation prompts that will happen because every time you name a machine anything differently in the description you will eventually use up all the computer activations since Zbrush thinks it is for a different machine.

I think another effect of the activation conflict I was having resulted in the webform not allowing me to use the same computer description without failure further promoting reaching the activation cap.

However, I found the support team to be aware and very responsive of this issue and able to follow and confirm as much on their end and to clear the activation list immediatly after being informed!
However, I believe they do this during business hours.
In which case, now that I am done, I have to put in a request in the morning as well. To tidy up my last failed attempts.

Well, hopefully, that solves problems for some. I don’t use ZSwitcher at all. My problem still exists.

I understand what you’re saying and agree. However, the only reason I’ve had to enter so many descriptions, etc. is because ZBrush keeps inadvertantly deactivating itself, despite being run ‘as administrator’ and using the appropriate code to which it indicates it’s activated…then later BAM!, it’s deactivated again without any good reason.

…and no, once activated, I don’t run the program ‘as adminitrator,’ anymore.

Add me to that list. Can’t keep 4r3 activated anymore after a week or so of having it. Made a ticket immediately. Not being able to use it until Pixologic gets back to me is very frustrating.

This is sort of off-topic, yet semi-related. I’m down to using 4R2b again, due to the above issues. However, I can count on it crashing 100% of the time when I draw a default cube and go into a shadowbox mode. Maybe 4R3 would fix this, but alas, I cannot use that either.

The DefaultCube has too many polygons. Either drop to level 4 or increase the ShadowBox Resolution.

Hey all,

Experiencing repeated requests for activation here too.

Can I just confirm; if installing with “Zbrush_4R3_Installer_WIN.exe”, is it necessary to then upgrade with “ZBrush_4R3_Upgrader_WIN.zip”?

I ask because the 4R3 installer has a 4R2b logo, indicates that it’s installing 4R2b, and installs into a 4R2b folder. The start menu shortcut even points to 4R2b. However checking the zbrush.exe properties show that it is in fact version 4.3.

Is this problem caused by installing the upgrade patch when it’s not required?

Am presently waiting for my deactivation request to be processed before I can check.

Cheers,
Tom

Download the installer again. I know that for a time there was a server issue and the download link was delivering the 4R2b installer. That was fixed and the link you already have from Cleverbridge should now be delivering the 4R3 installer.

As for the matter of the disappearing activation, you’re not being ignored. The hardest thing in the world for a software developer to fix is one that can’t be duplicated. We are aware of the issue and are trying to find the trigger. Unfortunately, we haven’t yet been able to figure out what the common link is between the systems that this is happening on. My recommendation is to open a correspondence with the Support team through a support ticket so that we can respond to you and try to work together with you to find the cause of this issue so that it can be fixed.

Thanks aurick, also my thanks to Will for resetting my activations over the weekend. I’m downloading the new installer now, will let you know if I have any more problems with authentication.

Cheers,
Tom

PS these are the steps I followed that led to the problem:

  1. installed & activated current Zbrush demo
  2. uninstalled zbrush demo
  3. installed zbrush 4r2b using the incorrectly labelled 4r3 installer
  4. ran and activated 4r2b, exit
  5. ran and deactivated 4r2b, exit
  6. installed 4r3 patch (zbrush_4r3_upgrader_win.zip)
  7. ran and activated 4r3. Prompted for authorisation at every launch.

Am running vista ultimate x64 with uac disabled. All programmes run as administrator. Zbrush installed to the default location.

If ZBrush is activating and then asking for activation again the very next time you launch it, that typically means that antivirus software is blocking the license files from being written successfully. In that case, simply disabling your antivirus software prior to doing Web Activation should resolve the issue. You can enable it again after activation has been completed.

That’s actually an entirely different item from what most of the people in this thread have reported, which is where ZBrush works fine through multiple restarts but then suddenly loses its activation.

Well, if that wasn’t my problem first time round, it is now

Uninstalled zbrush and did a clean install using the new 4r3 installer & activated. Worked like a charm for a day. Launched zbrush today and used it for a little while, exited normally. Launched it again a few minutes later (no reboot) and was confronted with the “Licence is not activated!” screen again.

Will submit a ticket in a moment. Any suggestions? Using vistax64. Permissions are set correctly for the pixologic dir.

Thanks

Will told me it was something to do with their new updater. I had to download a full version of 4r3 and do a full install instead of the upgrade. It has worked so far.
