Latest Project: The New Species, a few updates

This is an update of the current personal project I’m working on.

My original idea was the concept of a sea creature which only makes an appearance once every few hundred years or so to reproduce. This creature is so large that it doesn’t really notice the existence of anything else but it’s own species.(not aggressive, doesn’t have a subconscient plot to destroy any large cities like in the movies, just feeds on plankton, ect)
And it’s the way this creature feeds that I thought might be interesting, the head splits and opens, that’s what I’ll be working on next.

nice creature, i want it as a pet eheh

The New Species: Updates, Open Head

As I wrote in the previous update, I think the interesting part of this animal is the way it feeds, and as you can see above, if you look on the side, there seams to me an eye or a nose, and a mouth, but really, it’s the entire head part that splits in length, opens up and reveals a filtering surface in order to feed on as much plankton as possible.

As I as well wrote previously, this creature is meant to look scary, but actually isn’t.

NewSpecies: Lucky Snap Shot

NewSpeciesDeepLuckyShot_oldPhotoLook.jpg

Imagine you’re snorkeling with a few of your friends, and suddenly, you thought you saw something move down there…
This is a little test: I took my New Species model in Maya, applied a displacement map and rendered it in an under water environment, then finally added some “mystery” in photoshop.

Enjoy

Pretty dark, hard to see anything.

:+1:

EricShawn: Correct, I wanted to do some kind of very obscure lucky snap shot. This is of course just a test of the model , I just found it interesting to do that sort of Bigfoot / Loch Ness monster mystery snapshot effect.
What I’d really want to do at some point is reproduce the drawing I made of it as concept artwork, (http://leeroygysi.deviantart.com/art/The-New-Species-355268916).

I believe the best Ideas you can have come to you when you’re not thinking about having an idea, or even better, when you’re not thinking about anything in particular; for example, dreams, but let us not forget that close to 90% of our dream escapes our mind in the following 10 minutes of us waking up, so always keep a notebook handy!

AmphBoarSmall.jpg

This is a sketch of the AmphibiousBoar; completely different species I thought would be interesting to mix together. However, the fun challenge was to figure out which animal of each species would be candidate.

I’ll be making a Zbrush version of this creature, but for now, it remains concept artwork.

Wow, I love that!

Great concept art, great skills!

:+1:

nice window into your imagination! I agree with you on the keeping a notebook handy! I’ve lost so many amazing dream state creations that I wasn’t quick enough to jot down! great concepts and sculpts!

EricShawn: Thank you, I’ve started working on it in Zbrush, please don’t hesitate to tell me what you think

SammehSAMURAI: Thank you for your kind words, And yes… so many loses unfortunately… I think we all have the memory of waking up to something so awesome, but barely being able to remember it; but yes, the little red note pad is a weapon of choice.

This is the first Zbrush Sculpt update of the AmphibiousBoar sketch,(http://leeroygysi.deviantart.com/art/The-AmphibiousBoar-355502681).

amphBoarearly.jpg

As I mentioned previously, the idea is to mix completely different and opposite species together. However, the fun challenge was to figure out which animal(s) of each species would be candidates; and as you may see, I’ve chosen a boar for the mammal side, a combination of a frog and salamander for the Amphibian side, and finally, the chameleon for the reptilian side.

This is the next Zbrush Sculpt update of the AmphibiousBoar sketch, http://leeroygysi.deviantart.com/art/The-AmphibiousBoar-355502681 .

More updates to come soon.

This is the final detailing stage of the AmphibiousBoar sculpt made in Zbrush, based on the sketch, http://leeroygysi.deviantart.com/art...Boar-355502681 .

Texturing work coming next.

Yet another project I’m currently working on.

It’s the much used concept of a human looking character being the earthly representation of a demonic entity.

DaemonLordSketch.jpg

This is the demon lord form that my main character transforms into, (there won’t be any sketches of the main character since he is modeled after a friend of mine).

I’ll be uploading some more development as time passes, in other words, 3D sculpts created in Zbrush of the demon form and the main character.

Enjoy

This is a first Zbrush Update based on the sketch, (http://leeroygysi.deviantart.com/art/DaemonLord-Sketch-357582613).

I’ve changed the horns, making them a little more complicated/interesting than in the sketch.
I’ll be adding much more detail and will be uploading the development.

Enjoy

This is an other Zbrush character Update based on the concept explained with the sketch, (http://leeroygysi.deviantart.com/art/DaemonLord-Sketch-357582613).

I’ll be adding much more detail and will be uploading the development.

An Update based on the sketch, (http://leeroygysi.deviantart.com/art/DaemonLord-Sketch-357582613).

I’m now questioning whether I should keep the horns or not, since there are quite some interesting things that happened while detailing in Zbrush; I suppose testing is the only way to find out.

Enjoy

This is a project I’ve been working on in Zbrush, inspired by a tarot cards I thought was quite interesting.

WF01.2.jpg

Colored version so far, quickly rendered for display.

Black and white version, I think it’s got a certain charm, specially if rendered with desaturated textures applied and a colored ambient environment.

Enjoy

Loving these sculpts! keep it up!

Thank you for the compliment, I’ll definitely do my best .
