great! Always a pleasure to come back to your sketchbook and see your latest works.
Good sense of scale in your images. I especially like L64. Makes me want to know more about the civilization that built this and lives in it.
Well, I first started to wonder how possibly Gutalin could handle so much details on one single model ( like everyone, I guess ).
Because working with custom alphas and creating so tiny details involves far more than 12/13 millions of polys on your model.
So I first thought of HD Geometry but itās more suitable to constant details like skin.
And obviously, Gutalin sometimes drops several models on the canvas and you canāt make a HD render on a document ( as far as I know ).
Then I thought of creating the details directly on the document with alphas and stencil.
That way you can have an incredible amount of details if you set your resolution to something like 4, 5 or 6000 pixels wide.
But this technique is not very accurate when you have to deal with complex volumes ( the stencil wrap, for example, does not work pretty well ).
So one last option came up to my mind: subtools.
What if I decided to separate my model in several subtools, divide them, then extract some new pieces from those subtools with custom alphas, divide again, make some deformations ( inflat ) and visibility ( hide points, delete hidden, split hidden, etc⦠) tricks on them, etc, etc, etc⦠?
That way I could reach the level of polygons I needed to create some tiny details.
And thatās what I did.
I think itās the only way to do it.
Because if you create such amount of details on an editable model in Zbrush, you donāt have the choice: you need to have the polygons resolution for that.
But Gutalinās models are literaly incredible.
Iām pretty sure he uses two or three tricks I still donāt get.
Thatās why I said I was close to him in my previous post.
Just close.
This development still needs to be improved so if you have any ideas, bring it on !
I would have one question for Gutalin, though:
How many subtools do you usually use for one model ?
Cheers

āAnd obviously, Gutalin sometimes drops several models on the canvasā¦ā - yes.
āThen I thought of creating the details directly on the document with alphas and stencil.ā -yes (example L51).
āSo one last option came up to my mind: subtools.ā - yes, but not the basic reception.
āIām pretty sure he uses two or three tricks I still donāt get.ā - yes.
āHow many subtools do you usually use for one model ?ā - L64 (3 subtools), L62 (2 subtools), L61 L60 L59 L51 (1 subtools),
You well done! Your experiments have prompted me a new way of realisation of the maximum detailed elaboration!
My respect.

NICE ONEā¦Really love your STYLEā¦
I had a feeling that most of your process involved alphas and inflating. And look at what you can do with it!
