I have been working on this body type forever…just don’t know if it is ever going to be worthy…so to the boneyard with it…so I did one more gatorman with it…background of my daughter and a little boy she was looking after this past summer on one of our trips to the lake. Though it would make a good background tonight…and used the little gatorman as prey and the other type I was working on…and of course my ollllllllddddd trees…and a few dragons flying in the backdrop lookin for scraps…so the dragons eyeballing the kids eyeballing the predators eyeballing the final prey…and us eyeballing the whole shootin match…so I wonder…who is eyeballing us during all this process ???hmmmmmmm

This looks cool! I see you have used the flat material as background 
. And your lighting is coming from the same direction than in the picture.
Now… there are two simple ‘cheats’ which would make this look even better!
- Go to the render tab and switch on the environment and set it to texture. And as texture select the background picture. Then go into the material of the critters and set environment reflection to a low value (try 100% for laughs). The effect will only be seen in a best render. That will tint the objects with the colors of the background picture. Perspective and projection is not ‘correct’ but the effect is actually believable.
- Bake the layer when all done, then paint in a tad of shadows. Drag from the color swatch into the picture where you already have a shadow. That makes sure you pick up an existing shadow color and your shadow does not stick out.
- Bonus hint (lol)… take the blurrrrrr brushhhhh and set it to a low value and smudge your elements so they fit to the blur of the background picture.
In about 2 minutes you end up with a surprisingly different picture. It might even look better with those three steps. If it does, praise my hints, if it looks terrible, don’t mention me and blame it on the zombies…

Here is an quick 1 minute sample. I used the cloner brush to ‘hide’ the foot of the geometry. Another mini hint…

(The reflection in here is very strong compared to what I would try on a character… But you will be surprised what even a setting of 3 or 4 does regarding ‘reality’… In the end… reality is only a perception)
