Those initial lighting setups are gorgeous.
I’ve worked scan data before as well, but yeah…it only gets you so far.
Great sculpt.

Great sculpt.
Amazeing renders, love the lighting tests, mindblowing stuff.
When i saw the thumbnail i say “oh a photo for reference, cool”… then i see this thread and is just amazing and insanely cool the realism!!, fantastic job!
Superb work, pure inspiration.
What’s that? Oh it’s the sound of the bar being raised yet once again.
Kudos Lee!
Cheers,
Joe
Excellent work!
Wow. Just wow. Very inspiring. Great to see your light studies too! It’s great to sit back and watch where you go with your work.
Amazingly rendered. Love how you model the eyes, e.g., the concave Iris, the subtle blend between the Iris and Sclera, and the perfect highlights. Kudos.
Oh my word! these are ultra fantastic specially these last ones small_orange_diamond
plz don’t tempt to switch to SI
hey lee!

So real it’s creepy
very nice sculpt, great lighting. I like those a lot. (I prefer the ones without hairs though.)
KillahPriest: I will upload some in abit. Thanks for the bookmark
LeoAMD: Thanks
sandpiper: Thank you, most appreciated
pimeto: XSI Hair yes, rendered together in Arnold in one go. Very quick.
krawlin: Thanks.
handlebar: Thanks
manzarek123: Nice, big compliment. Thanks
meshmasterLLC: Thanks for the kind comments Joe.
webhead: Thank you
nwargasm: Thanks, more to come I hope.
Daimondo: Thanks, there’s a haze layer around the iris to try and simulate the transparent effect.
SuperHero: Thanks
rasmusW: Thanks
Etcher: Creepy good I hope
Beneto: I agree, they eyes need more work also I think.
Some extra updates, using sIBL (from here http://www.hdrlabs.com/sibl/archive.html) with Arnold to render using HDR sets, hair as well, no need for hair comping afterwards. Some DOF added in Photoshop. These are harder to get accurate as I have no physical reference to compare to
impressionnant!!!
Fantastic stuff, Really impressive.
One Question, How did you do the eyes?
Phew! Lucky your didn’t break your neck! Must have been one hell of a whack to
get a scar that deep. Must have freaked your mother out!
I just checked out a little more about the Artec scanner on youtube. It’s
really fascinating. This would be great for wrapping your brain around cloth
folds (after I saw a vid of a woman wearing jeans being scanned). Is the
lazer dangerous for your eyes? Since the Joanne scan (you did a while back)
had her eyes closed and here in this thread, your first post did too. Just
curious to think that it could be dangerous and that you had to sculpt in
opened eyes afterwards. All in all, a really exciting bit of kit. Imagine
having animated holograms with this sorta tech! woop woop!
i hate being picky because it’s frikkin awesome, but when you’re so close it’s the little things that stand out, if that makes sense?
Mega impressed with the hair/stubble …but the eyelashes seem wrong to me, unnatural, i can’t imagine yours are actually like that? especially not on the lower lid
Also, the spec on the eyes doesn’t seem wet/tight enough?
Yes, i know, picky b@$t@rd, i know, but only because it’s so close to perfect!
Still awesome, still think you copped out on the Sean Young 'do

artsudio3: Thanks
InvaderZahn: Thanks, the eyes are standard like most people build. I just replicate the UV’s from the base White part of the Eyeball onto the outer wet layer and use the same Bump Map image, to make out that the veins protrude through, while leaving the center part over the iris much smoother. There’s also a smaller micro thin haze layer underneath, to simulate that fogging effect you get on the rim of the iris. Hope that helps.
SadamHu: It was a big fall! lots of stitches. Yes the Artec-Scanner is amazing, no it’s not dangerous. It’s a white light scanner, it can be slightly un safe if the model suffers from epilepsy. The eyes closed is just a choice, one pose from over 100 FACS expressions The scanner is also amazing for cloth as you say
RawSunlight: I agree with you, your right about the eyelashes, they are actually very old twisted and re-shaped lashes, that at the time were just placements but I couldn’t be bothered to make specific new ones. I should do though, your right. They do stand out. Your not being picky just honest I appreciate the feedback.I will see what more I can improve on. You love the Sean Young do don’t ya!
Well she was the ultimate Babe of the 70/80’s. Drop dead gorgeous Android?! Killer Fremen Warrior!? need I saw more…
I will stick with short hair, ta very much!
Thanks all for commenting.
now its just ridiculous. i thought the first set of images looked good, then you had to go and post more. these are the most realistic head renders i have ever seen. you are extremely talented my friend.
Awesome work ! I dream of a tutorial teaching this !
