You might want to try this.
In zbrush, Create a document 1024 by 1024.
Paint with material on document so it fills the canvas.
Export document ( photoshop file best).
In maya under place texture color use your zbrush file.
Don’t forget you can change the quality of the exported document
by using lights etc.
You can’t transfer material properties. But you can work with textures…
There is no Common Material Description language within the industry so everyone is creating their own ‘gold’.

PS:I have the same issue with ZB & XSI. And Rhino… and… and…
PPS:Wrong Forum… or I missed your WIP
Keep in mind that every program may have a “Blinn” material but they depend on the rendering enviroment, lights etc. So transferring a “material” from one program to another is not gonna happen…but transferring the texture is…then it’s a matter of playing with the programs mats to achieve the same or near same results.
Another thread to read if you are using Maya for some hints.
Search on the forum for MaterialBaker. It is a ZScript which takes snapshots of your model and builds a texture out of it. I used it yesterday and it seems to work well as a compromise. Lot’s to adjust and with the rright lights the results are rather surprising.
Hope it helps!
