To Frenchy Pilou: You guessed it: I AM a big Corben-Fan
But also a big fan of other talented comic artists.
Thank you!
To Tantramancer: Wow. I love adventure stories on distant planets! “Starship Troopers” for example isn´t bad, too!
Some of my “cyber-comics” are available as pdf-files (for free ) on the website of my wifes little publishing house (www.eckbauer-verlag.de). Feel free to download what you like. Thanks!
To Dickie: Thanks! I´m wondering how easy you people see my admiration for Corbens work…
It’s simple Manfred! Back in 1977 I was a kid of 15. A new magazine came out that summer called “Heavy Metal”. I picked up a copy and inside was an episode of Richard Corben’s “Den”. I was enthralled. Gorgeous color, wonderful naked people, cool writing. I got a subscription to the mag and the rest is history. He was an important inspiration to my career. You keep up the great work, my friend, and you will inspire careers also…

Hey Manni, es ist fantastisch
I like such shorties, well done
Nice one, Corbin does rule, as does his artistic treatment of women especially their tazooms!
I look forward to more
To Dickie: Around 1977 (I was 15 then, too) I read my first Corben-Comic in a magazine named “Vampir Comic”. It was one of the rare ones without nudity. The painterly quality of his comicstrips fascinated me at once! Later I got his comic albums starring “Den” and others. Since I produced CGI on my Amiga I wished Corben would discover computergraphics. In “Tales of the black diamont” that was the case - he made some CG-buildings with pixelated textures. And `til now I wait for CG-characters in vain. Apparetly someone else must do this job…
To Abyssis: Danke! I´m pleased that you like it.
To KingSalami: Yep! I think Corben is a big Russ Meyer Fan…
Manfred, I was an Amiga brat too…lol. Now maybe I can make my old 1986 Amiga pic “Stupid Alien Head National Park” in 3-D…

Cooool!
Something is odd about this comic. I can’t place it…
You got the breasts right. But her mouth looks like she’s going to blow.
She’s too clean. To be realistic, I doubt that she would have hard nipples if she’s thinking about survival or food.
Try creative angles to cover some of this up. You gave too much of her away. Maybe a well placed shadow could give her more character.
Hey!,
I liked the nipples…
LOL!
I agree tho… some dirt… perhaps a scuffed Knee…
RichardCoben website has been down since Aug 2000

Its Poser. What more can I say?
Thanks for your comments!
By the way: I know that many people hate “Poser”, but for comic making it´s irreplaceable! With any other program you need too much time to create the characters. You would need decades to finish a longer comic with more characters! So…
It’s not that I, personally, hate Poser. I own Poser. It’s just that Poser models look like Poser models and, unless some major touching up is done, they are easily recognizable.
I use Poser to pose a figure as one would the old wooden manaquine. Then I use that figure to sketch or draw my final figure.
I work with a 3D modeler. He uses Poser models to create models for use in real-time 3D. But he tweaks the models a lot so that when he is done you cannot tell it was ever a Poser model to begin with.
Poser is, to me, sort of like the stock lense flare filter in Photoshop. It get’s used a lot and every other Photoshop user instantly recognizes it. It’s not necessarily bad, but easily recognizable … like Poser models.
Hi Dan! You are absolutely right. Poser is a product for the masses (version 3 is available as a free download), so almost everybody recognizes that characters even if they are somewhat altered. But I personally don´t mind !
For some future projects I plan to do it like you. Taking a Poser model as starting point for own designs. I just started to make my own morph targets. Next step is to alter the full figure (or create a very new one in ZBrush ) and pose or animate it in other packages (of course NOT EVERY character in a comic)…
Thanks!
I look forward to when you do that! Very cool!
If you want to get away from “The Poser look” try this free product…
http://www.dedalo-3d.com/
be sure to get the skinning (autoUV) and auto-bone and joint plug-in
can make some interesting characters in just a few minuets…
you need Blender to use this…
http://www.blender3d.com/
also, it is quite possible to add your own morph targets
reminds me of old movie called “weird science”… kids make the perfect woman on computer…
anyways, hope this comes in useful!
send me a PM if you are interested in this… I have a way to port into Zbrush in 3 easy steps…
I am working on a few tutorials, I will send you a rough draft of my tutorial…
Hi Polaris30! I´ve made some Blender pictures and animations a few years ago (see some on my homepage www.manfreds.cyber-comics.de\kostenlos\Blender\blender.html . I also saw the “make human” project some month ago. It has grown since then! Worth to give it a try! Thanks for the tip! But I think I don´t want to experiment much with that. Altering Poser figures in ZBrush is also a good way to get away from the typical Poser look I think. And it´s big fun to - say - model some new breasts for a girl I´ve done this before for a friend who needs a virtual idol musicvideo for his new song (he´s a music producer). Here is she:
Breasts and new shirt over them modeled/altered with ZBrush. Do you think she looks too much like a cheap Poser character?
COol stuff!
I like her very much
