You are doing an awesome job, keep it up!
Aminuts, his color does not match because I have not painted the body yet. The base color is the exact shade of the base color of the head. I painted the head so that makes it look a lil “darker” than the body. He’s gonna be covered in armor for the most part so I will probably only paint the parts of the skin that will be visible.
I am working on a helmet now but it is frustrating the way we can only use 1 tool at a time. I’m trying to use multimarkers now without going back and whipping up a helm in Lightwave…Grrrrr
BUT, Thank you for your comments, Bro!
Dickie
Here is an update on the Orc. I think this will be one of those never ending projects. Anyway,
I made him a helmet today. I liked how it looked so I threw in the armor I built from the
tutorial 2 moths or so ago. I also lit him with
classic 3 point lighting. 1 main Key (Slight Blue), 1 main Fill (Orange/warm), and 1 Rim light (Red).
The red rim light gave me an idea. I googled “Burning Buildings” and got an image of a burning house. I painted out the firemen in PS, did a 7.5 Gaussian blur and sized it to my render dimensions. I then loaded into Z-Brush as a texture. I then made a new background layer and filled it with a flat color material using the texture for the image. I then adjusted the lights so they matched the image. I turned off the key and
brought up the values of the fill and rim lights, so they were the primary sources in the scene. It worked pretty good.
Hope ya like him. I still gotta make him a sword and make a real breastplate for him.
Then it’s on to his mount. I’m gonna try a Warboar…It’ll take a while as modeling for work will be taking precident for a while…
Anyways, enough rambling…I hope ya like him , I’m having a ball making him…
Oh yeah, doesen’t the corpse head hanging under his chin look like Ted Danson?..LOL…
It wasn’t intentional…
Dickie
Cool barbarian guy

Have happy Zbrushing!

DICKIE. Dude, I’ve been following this thread since the first model and haven’t said anything. Now I have to!
That is awesome! All I can say is that you humble me
Also, I would like to know a little more about that lighting. Could you post some screen-shots of your light setups for us 1.55 guys.
Once again. AWESOME!!
GREAT!
Amazing model, material, texture, pose…etc…
Wahoo!! Lookin’ Great!
OK Nalrac, here is a screenie of my light settings for all you 1.55 guys.
Frenchy: I think the word you are looking for is obsession…LOL…I have no idea why I like
Warhammer orcs so much, but I like the fact they are customizable
Sirquadalot, Giantsun, and Alfaeus: Thanks for the props…they keep me modeling…
Artboy: The helmet is 5 pieces, the cheekguard, the 2 individual rings connecting the cheekguard to the cap, the Skull on top, and the Cap and horns which are 1 piece-2 materials. I just used projectionmaster to give it two seperate materials on one object.
If anyone who has 2.0 and wants the lights or any material settings here they be…
Enjoy and use 'em for good, NOOO evil!! Evil BAD!
Dickie
This is a great thread, and you’ve made a great Orc, Dickie…hope we see more of
your stuff on the forum !

I very rarely post a reply to this site, but when I saw the last scathing post from Bloody(Magic-I had to. When I started reading your post I thought “Oh this must be one of those joke post that says-just joking, Keep up the good work” at the end. When it wasn’t there I was appalled. There is creative criticism and there is down right mean. Excuse me if I missed something here, but that seemed mean to me. I want to say that I think Dickie is doing a great job. Keep up the good work.

Popped onto this thread and was very pleased by what I saw. Way to go on some very nice renders and modeling and scene incorporations.

Your comments in my opinion were pretty harsh. It’s not wrong to tell someone that you don’t appreciate their work. I would suggest that maybe you can tell them what parts of the work you didn’t like and the reason’s behind it. And there is always something nice that can be found in any image. Or if not, at least let the artist know how you would fix the image or parts of the image. Otherwise they have learned nothing and the person commenting has done nothing but harbor ill will towards themselves.
I am not a big fan of the middle earth creatures like many are, but I still enjoy the artwork. My person forte are the undead and sci fi. Dickie, again not to hog your thread or start anything…you did a great job in my opinion with your Orc. He reminds me of the pig guards on the Return of the Jedi that guarded the Rancor monster that Luke Skywalker defeated. Lucas made a killing off of designs like this. So there must be something good about it $$$$$$4
Ok, i will be kinder than, Sorry.
That is just too sweet Dickie. One thing though, I think he needs a scar tattoo like the image with your name as a tattoo. That looks really cool…
This thing has progressed wicked nicely Dickie!
Congrats on making the stickies too. SPeaks alot of how this baby is turning out!
This guy turned out pretty awesome Dickie!!
I love the razed building idea and ya lit him up pretty good with it. I have one minor prob with it as the building and fire draw too much attention away from your orc. My eye keeps wandering to the fire…It might just be me so…ya know? Perhaps a pinch of fog or a bit more distance between orc and fire…I don’t know.
great idea though! great modelling and textures too!
Can’t wait to see your next project!
I like this a lot! I definetely see the Warhammer style in this, and I think that’s awesome! Your work and detail on the armor is most impressive, and if gives me a ton of ideas… well… for more armor! LOL
Other than the fire building picture, I think this is a great piece of work! I definitely look forward to seeing more of it.
