Full Metal Quartet - Vietnam Goblins WIP

Hello!

I’ve been detailing the hands and feet today for a while, so here you have the detail shots you asked for  I still have to add nails or claws to them, but I’ll wait to have the final pose first.

I’ve also fixed things here and there in the entire model. Adding detail created by the pose mostly…

I need to start working on the next character…

Can tell you’re having a lot of fun with these, they’re great to look at and have tons of character

It feels like there is still something a little wrong with the big guy’s arm muscles, specifically the bicep/triceps  Not the actual muscles, but I think maybe the way they’re sitting on the bone and would twist around in that pose. I dunno if you’ve already fixed it though, so just offering.

And that stoner gob’s pants are getting really low :stuck_out_tongue: Wondering if it might make the anatomy look a little too strange, even if he is quite lanky and stuff. That’s more based on opinion than anything technical, though. His lower belly space just looks kinda… empty?

Can’t wait to see more progress

Glenn - I msyelf get pretty disgusted at the absurdity of kids, who in forums for games such as Call of Duty, ask for more realism in a war-game.My Response to that would be ’ well, then go to war and you get all the realism you will soon find out you never wanted’.
I have nothing but respect for your past and I won’t even try to imagine how horrific and traumatic it must be to experience war.
However, Ruben did not try to actually depict the war you have been to, as he stated himself already and which was very obvious in his work to begin with. It is freedom of art and expression which allows all of us to create artistic variations and interpetations on any given subject.
It is of course your freedom of speech to express your critics, but common sense should tell you to do so with decency and respect. In particular since you are very touchy yourself, when it comes to critics of your own work.

Yo are quite the mind reader aren’t you?
But seriously, no,- that is not at all my assumption.
I must admit I can be quite arrogant in certain situations, but I do not have the arrogance to assume I am the only one who is supposed to give honest opinions. Especially since that would imply others are not honest.

However, be assured this is probably my last reply to a post of yours, because I do realize debating with you isn’t the most fruitful thing to do.

Take care

Rubin love the work, love the concept of it all big fan on alternative reality’s my self.

One or two crits well one and a opinion. The veins have a strange feel about them a bit two elongated maybe they just don’t have to stand out the whole length of em.
Now the opinion part the spliff my friend it is a small prop but one that can lend some nice feel to Dopey. Gotta get it just right pay close attention to detail on it and it will bring more to the character presence.

really looking forward to seeing the forth member of the team.

Keep up the good work and keep the creative juices flowing my friend.

Hi Rubin…
I’m really enjoying your style of sculpting on this figure…It has the feel of an
EL GRECO painting, with a twist of MAD humor added into it… GREAT COMBO…:+1:
Sorry to have injected my feelings about the concept into it, but people can agree to disagree, and leave it at that…Would be a better world if it happened more often.
Anyway, keep going with this…It’s really shaping up nicely…I like the gesture in the hand …really addes to hs character…:+1:

Julian…Yes, you should be very careful of the fruit that you bite into, sometimes it can be very bitter, and leave a lingering nasty taste in your mouth…
About reinstating the draft…I said that the minute Bush started doing his thing with Saddam after 911 happened…AND Bill Moyers said it just the other day, ten years later:( on his TV program…He probably caught hell for saying it, by the powers that be, but it needed to be said none the less…because the draft is what caused the people of all ages and all around the planet to rebel and to ultimitly force the powers that be to end the war in Vietnam that they were profiting from …If it were not for the draft, that war would still be raging, and the powers that be would still be profiting, just as they are now profiting with their current war where there is no draft…Just some food for thought, FROM THIS OLD BITTER TASTING FRUIT.
CHEERS

nice going ruben… i like the personality you ve given to these characters…
cheers

Thank you guys! That was a good feedback session

I’ll work all day in all those changes that you suggested, and hopefully, in another character. I have so many things to do…

I’m happy with the pose of Dopey, I just want to polish a couple of things here and there as you mentioned.

His lower belly space just looks kinda… empty?

I know! It really looks empty, but I don’t know what to do there… Maybe underwear?

One or two crits well one and a opinion. The veins have a strange feel about them a bit two elongated maybe they just don’t have to stand out the whole length of em.

I agree. I’ll work on them. Thanks!

Now the opinion part the spliff my friend it is a small prop but one that can lend some nice feel to Dopey. Gotta get it just right pay close attention to detail on it and it will bring more to the character presence.

I agree with you too. Actually the one in the image was just a cylinder that I just used as a place holder and I completely forgot about actually modeling it.

And for Beast (the big guy)… I’m still not fully satisfied with the pose. I want more Michelangelo and less action figure feel to it. I’ll keep working on it. I was also thinking about stylizing the face a little bit more, just deforming them, but I’m not sure how it’s going to look. Lets see

It feels like there is still something a little wrong with the big guy’s arm muscles, specifically the bicep/triceps Not the actual muscles, but I think maybe the way they’re sitting on the bone and would twist around in that pose. I dunno if you’ve already fixed it though, so just offering.

Which arm are you referring to?

Thanks again to everyone for your help!

Underwear would be pretty fun I think, and add to his overall personality

Oh sorry I didn’t specify, maybe something like this…

Thanks Aestheticmachine for your help! I’ll work on this tonight.

I have some new screengrabs to share today.

I thought about the underwear too. I thought that red bright shorts or maybe with a smiley face on them, would create a good contrast against the all-green uniforms.

I worked on the veins a little more. I took new reference pictures. I also changed the joint and the shoelaces.

Also I finally found a pose I like for the fat guy. I want his pose to show that he is the wise guy of the group. Also the calmed and the most reflexive. I tried to do a “italian mafia” explanation pose. Like if he was in the middle of explaining his great plan…

I was thinking to add a big wrench so he can rest his higher left arm on it… I don’t know yet.

Anyway, here are the updates:

These are great!! Love the poses, they feel so natural. Is that a zbrush shader?? If so, where can I get it?

Thank you all guys!!!

I’m done with this (for now). This was my final project to graduate as a modeler. I went as far as possible with the models in the time I had, and this is the result.

In the near future I’m planning on continuing with this project, add some details and props, texture the models and all that…

Anyway, I hope you like it guys!
