For Maya Users: Displacement, Color, and Bump Map Setup MEL Script

Hello Everyone. I was searching for MEL Scripts that involved Zbrush and Maya and I found this one:

zayaTools
by FiendishVegan

I believe this is the best MEL Script for creating displacement maps in under 1 minute. I’ve tested it on two models and I had great results.

It’s still unfinished. You can’t work with normal maps, but FiendishVegan is working on it. There are some artifacts when working with subdiv, but I think it was because of my 1024 displacement map. However a 1024 displacement map works great with polygons.

The Workflow:
After opening Maya, you can do two things,
option 1: import the model, then open the script; or
option 2: open the script and start from there. I prefer this one.
Alpha Depth Factor, I start with 1.
After that, hit create maps, and then your done.

If you did the second option, your model may look rough. I use this script to solve that problem:
migNormalTools
Under Maya’s Default, click on Average. This will smooth the polygons.

where can I find the mignormal tools script? when i click on link it goes straight to installation instructions… by no script…

nevermind… i googled it =) thanks

The links on google dont work =( if you could post a link that works thad be much appreciated!

In the website that I linked to, right click and “save as” on “migNormalTools.mel”.

right on, thank you so much!

When the instructions say Append to the file usersetup.mel what directory are they talking about? I looked in both my documents and my programs file directory on my C drive for that mel and there is nothing of that name… Any ideas?
