First work

Please see http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?161045-How-to-Post-Images-at-ZBrushCentral

You’ll have much better success if your images can be seen within ZBC rather than having to go someplace else.

Ooops ! fixed  what do you think about the model?

Composited into a shot I took when I was in South Africa. Please take time to comment people !

No comments yet?

Anyways! Working on a suit of armor for this guy, hard surface modeling is HARD …

Some WIP shots of the Armor  Please comment!

Hi! First off bro, get to learning anatomy, human and animal is a great start. Firstly (dont take this the wrong way) your anatomy needs to be brushed up! For starters, take a look at the way the hands look from the wrist. Its way off. The feet are rushed and undeveloped, (as is the majority of this piece). Watch more tutorials and look at how the pro’s do it, you’ll learn alot. Dont expect replies here at ZBC as people are lookin for perfection, dont seek out for compliments to make yahself feel better bro. Trust me I was there once. Keep practicing on your techniques and you will finally see results… Peace:+1:

Thank you! I will work on the anatomy (and also on taking more time on refining the basic forms) Actually I was looking for Constructive criticism as that is the only way I can improve (now I know that the wrists are off and the feet are sloppy :D) not compliments (for compliments I can show this to grandma :P)

what to you think can be improved on the armor?

How did the effect of paint on the metal? You can speak the steps?..

I took several renders of the armor (Worn Silver, Hematite, Mat-cap Gorilla, Yellow Plastic) and took them into photoshop and placed them exactly on top of each other (hematite at the bottom, then silver, then black, then yellow [color dodge]) and then using the standard brush and a custom brush I ‘scraped’ the black surface.

hope that helped

Thanks …

Hi StormySky. To be honest, I couldn’t agree more with Ares1979. And again, as were both stating, don’t take any of this the wrong way. I know you can do better, heck, your already working your way around ZBrush, that in it self is a huge hurdle. As Ares1979 already pointed out, pick up those anatomy books, study them, draw and draw again what you see… it’ click (trust me, I am going through the same thing right now myself). On another note, believe it or not, really digging the ‘black texture’ on the armor (love that worn look on the edges). Let’s both keep practicing and see where we get-;). Best.

Thanks a lot ! No actually I appreciate you guys taking time to help me improve, this is my first sculpt and I know it isnt good by any stretch  so thats why I posted it, to get critique. I know If I didn’t have several inputs on what exactly is wrong with it, I would never improve  and btw, is there any anatomy books you would recommend in particular? I do have some drawing/painting skills (especially birds and animals) but my human anatomy is very weak as I have trouble drawing any ‘fixed’ pose "T’ pose etc… because I almost always mess up the proportions. Animals I can draw, its just humans I have problems with

again thanks a bunch for taking time to comment! means a lot

Hi StormySky, OK, sorry, but this is going to be quick and dirty- (in other words, I am tired as heck and need to get to bed).

For some cool SIMPLE quick tip type of stuff on Anatomy, there is a book called “Incredible Comics” with Tom Nguyen. This artist/author has a cool way of explaining the anatomy.

Then, there is a book (more like a thick magazine) called “How to draw and paint ANATOMY” by ImagineFX. This one also gives some cool Quick, Simple tips on how to draw the anatomy but, more in detail than Incredible Comics.

Then, there is of course, any of BURNE HOGARTH’s books, i.e. drawing the head, the anatomy, cloth etc. Anything by this amazing anatomy artist/author is worth every penny.

I also like another great anatomy/author by the name of JACK HAMM, his “Drawing the Head and Figure” book is just incredible.

If you want to get even more into the anatomy (to complement the books above), I use a book called “An Atlas of Anatomy for Artists” by Fritz Schider. This author has put together a book that reads more like a reference book for doctors than artists, but, clear enough for artist to understand where every muscle in the body is i.e. where they all attach to the bones, intersect with
each other etc. It’s a road atlas of the human body. I HIGHLY recommend this one.

And then, if your feeling really scientific and doctor like, I recommend one called “The Anatomy Coloring Book” by Attorney Wynn Kapit (he first practiced law, then became an illustrator) and Dr Lawrence M. Elson. Don’t let the title of this book throw you off, trust me, this book is only if your feeling like going into anatomy in an extreme way. But, I combine it with the one above.

I use the first books I mentioned for help with my style, to see form, line, expression, emotion, posing, proportions, etc. I use the last two books to see EXACTLY where all the muscles are.

And finally, there is Ryan Kingslien: http://www.visualarium.com/ He is an amazing anatomy artist in his own right. But the cool thing is he teaches anatomy using ZBrush. I am looking to
take his course here real soon. So, as soon as I can muster up some extra cash, I am most certainly going to take the course.

I have so many other anatomy books, but the ones I have just mentioned are the ones I use daily (or every chance I get to study anatomy).

And then, below is EVEN more info I recently sent to a friend, that he too is looking to learn anatomy…enjoy:

Attached are some links to some software for POSING to use with your
drawings (anatomy studying). The first link is to a software called DAZ
Studio, and it’s totally FREE. It’s a posing software on steroids. I have also attached a
link to learn it, for FREE also. If you spend a little time with it, you
can get it.

Link to the Software:

Link to learn it:

http://www.daz3d.com/i/3d-models/-/getting-started-with?item=13531&spmeta=ab

And a link to a Vitural Human Anatomy Studio for $50.00. Site also has
lots to do with Anatomy so look around when there:

http://d-anatomystore.com/?p=67

And this awsome site. Has tons and tons of Different poses with the
option to put a grid for guidance… also look around and have fun:

http://www.posemaniacs.com/

And, here is another good one, ‘3D Virtual Figure Drawing Studio’:

Go to GOOGLE and do a search for it. I don’t know if it’s free or not.

Hope this helps. Dragon out.

Whoaa! You my friend are a GOD ! holy Sh*t

if you need me i’ll be down at the bookstore ! Daiimmmm!

Ah, that’s great. Yes, I hope this info helps ya out. But, look around also, what may work for me may not work for you. Find artist or authors on anatomy that you feel are going to give you the most for your buck. Granted, I have spent years looking at books and these are some of the best I have found.
Well, on a last note, I forgot to mention one more fantastic book/magazine. It’s called “ZBrush Essentials” and it’s put out by Future Publishing Limited along with 3D World, 3DTOTAL, and of course, Pixologic. It’s a real neat book as it starts you off on how to make a proper base mesh and leads you into several detailed ZBrush sculpts i.e. skin folds, wrinkles etc. It’s pre Dynamesh so you won’t see that in there, however, it’s the basics of ZBrush and an absolute book/mag to have (Ryan Kingslien is in it along with Scott Spencer and many other amazing ZBrush masters). You can find the book here:
http://www.myfavouritemagazines.co.uk/zbrush-essentials/

Enjoy.

PS: “I am a GOD”… too funny. Not even close. But, I simply try to treat folks like I would like to be treated i.e. if folks help me, I like to help folks. And even if they don’t, I still do it anyway (always good to set a good exsample no matter what). Have a great day my friend.

thanks again ! but bad news, I couldnt find any of the books you told me about, found a book about the anatomy of the human hand, and also a book about drawing animals but nothing else so I’m afraid I’m going to have to order online (which will take some time :/)

and thanks for that magazine its on my list as well. and I can understand that as well  thanks again! not many people would have helped me out so much!

To tell you the truth, some of the books I have had with me for years. But, many others, I do ALL my ordering at amazon. And on a last note, I have no idea how I forgot, but, you most
certainly want to check out ANYTHING BY ANDREW LOOMIS as well. Best.

Well It’s looking good, remember that we are on learning progress, anatomy Issues are logical,
all It’s question to get reference images and take care with the Proportions.

It’s just practice and time question, look to move arms and legs proportions to adjust and
the final result will be better than the first one, I like the armor and the way that u painted looks nice,
still practicing and take constructive and possitive critics also the bad critics make u better on a future
how I said nobody born knowing…

thanks  I’m working on a new project now, its a hard surface model and I’m trying my best to get good proportions with that

Me encanto mucho. Tienen un pais muy bonito. Que mal por lo que esta pasando ahora. O hala se componga todo muy pronto.

StormySky, sorry, was just telling Interu2x that I speak spanish better than I write it (but I try to keep it up whenever I get the chance-;)) And that I think Mexico is a beautiful country… just sad for now as to what is going on. With GODs grace, it will get back to norm soon. And my wife is from Mexico. I also agree with his statement. One can never have enough of anatomy. I know I gave you alot of info on some good books, but by no means am I some sort of anatomy master… I am probably ok, but no master- Best.
