ZBrushCentral

First attempts

  1. Great idea about doubling those guns! I kind of envisioned the big guns as the old quad 50 aa guns and the shoulder mounted ones as anti-personnel, so this goes right along with that.
  2. We’re on the same page as far as lights go, too. Those square holes under the ****pit are going to have lights slotted in eventually. (Wish there was a way to actually light them up in Zbrush, unless there’s something I haven’t found and there’s a whole lotta that!) I’m going to design a spotlight for the top. Maybe even some fog light things.
  3. A ladder is in the works too. That’s part of the reason I asked DLangley about the handles on his cannon mount. I’m taking those and adapting them into ladder rungs. Don’t know exactly where it’s gonna go, but it’ll be there eventually.

Now go get busy with your hot rod and stop reading my mind!:lol:

Legs bulked out pretty well now. Also added a little deailing the the engine housing.
mechdetails2.jpg

Ha, ha. You read mine, I am in the middle of building the rear end suspension and exhaust pipes. Just taking a break for now. Cool that we do think alike (I feel sorry for you-:D).

LMAO! Dragon, it’s kinda weird how you always post here just as I save a new .jpeg to upload.

Lights = DONE
Guns = DONE
Engine = DONE
(Most of) Body work = DONE

ToDO = more rivets, finish detailing the small tactical nuke (that’s what I’m calling it for now) underneath the body, add a seat for the gunner, texture and polypaint.

If anyone else can think of something I need/ought to do, please give me a shout out. I really don’t want to mess this up.

Last update for the night? Probably not…:cool:

cool ! got some transparent parts goin on :+1: - some hydraulic hoses and fittings would top this off !! im home zbrushin on sat. eve also ! cheers

Gary, thank you for your comments. There are actually hoses and fittings, but they’re on the back side and you can’t see them at all from any angle that faces the front of the mech. They’re not the most realistic looking things by real-world standards and the placement would probably be considered weird, but hey, this ain’t real life!:lol:

Here’s a small detail of the area you’re talking about.
mech-detail2.jpg

First painting pass. And experimenting with battle damage.

There are very few tutorials regarding battle damaged armor in ZBrush out there, so if anyone has suggestions I’d appreciate it.:smiley:

Edit; I just realized on this bpr he’s got his front “toes” up in the air a touch. I’m going to build a base for him to stand on anyway so that will be fixed in the end.

That’s looking great Voodoo. Sorry, I can’t recall any specific battle damaged texturing for Zbrush specifically. But there is a fair amount of information on creating distressed texturing on the net. It would seem that those could help.

Your doing a great job on this model.

Ezra

cool didnt see hoses in back - diggin the camo paint !!

Ezra, thanks man. I’m improvising doing the wear and tear right now. I think it looks fairly convincing, but I’ll let you guys decide from my update. Your truck is sooo slick looking! I can’t wait to try some Big Daddy Roth type vehicles, although the rounded hard surfaces frankly give me the heebie-jeebies. As you can see I deliberately avoided curved surfaces on anything that wasn’t at a ninety degree angle to the camera.

Gary, Thanks! Your hard surface stuff is an inspiration to me!

MECH-COLOR1.jpg

The most subtools I’ve ever used by far (37). Yet the lowest polycount ever (5,160,906)! Is it wrong that I’m a little proud of that?:lol:

Added dusty stuff to the feet and lower areas.

Wow. Note to self. Don’t work on a model when you have a 102 degree fever. Wasn’t feeling well at all yesterday and took a look at my mech this morning. Uggh! Went way too far on the battle damage so I’m starting the paint job from scratch.

mechclean.jpg

thought that also dont lose all your detail in battle scars !! :+1:

Went with a pretty different look this time. Wanted a sand-blasted and worn look without going to the lengths I did yesterday and losing a bunch of detail. Added some grease to the piston things and a bit of soot to the ends of the exhaust pipes. Lastly made a base.

Messing with environments now.

mech_lc.jpg

Much better shot here. Any suggestions on what to do with the mats on the shoulder guns? They look like super-soakers right now.:lol:

mech_lc2.jpg

Hey Vodoodad … good progress on this! If you want to study the work of a master modeler and also amazing texturing, weathering etc. Check Top Row ced66 . Cheers, david :smiley:

Thanks, David! I’ll check that out for sure. I’m pretty satisfied with the way the paint job is turning out this time. I painted and repainted probably 20 times before I got something I was halfway happy with. But knowing the way I am, I’ll probably be tweaking this forever.

My last post was more accurate than I thought. I’ve been tweaking like crazy all evening, trying different mats/colors etc. Finally ended up with something I am really happy with. This is way better than I ever thought it would turn out. Hope you guys like it!

I couldn’t resist posting one more render. This one with no environment, just the stand. Also changed the position of the Watchmen smiley face.
