eva-01 test type WIP

Great job, it’s beautiful! And the back of the character is absolutely awesome.

I love how you pulled this off! did you use mesh extraction? or just masks and altered them from there? i can never really get the right teqnique down… could you write a quick tutorial??

for the rigid parts I used a few number of brushed, mainly claytubes, flatten, and a standard brush with alpha (standard number 39) and a slight positive BrushMod to “pull in” the mesh a little bit.

I started with claytubes to sketch out the main shapes, and then I used flatten brush to define the surface planes, when I needed a convex edge I used pinch brush to define it, and when I needed concavity I used smooth brush with a high negative BrushMod to protect the concave shape

also sometime I used a Zbrush primitive as guideline, for example I used a low poly cilinder to achieve the hard shape of the horn, when I was happy with his shape I projected it to the head mesh with a Zproject brush.

and for do organic parts, nothing special, clay brush, claytubes , and the same standard modified brush that I use for hard edges, but without BrushMod, mainly used for wrinkles.

I don’t use masks frequently, only when I need protect some area or for symmetry issues, but I don’t really use it as a sculpt technique.

Is the head a different subtool than the body or is it a one whole mesh? And did you start out with a low poly or straight out from zbrush?

yes!, the head and the body are separated meshes, the base mesh of the head was made in 3ds max, and the body was made using zspheres as shows this picture, I’m thinking in use retopology, but not for now.

I finished the retopology of the upper body(it took me a lot of time! hope if in next releases pixologic improve the retopology work flow), and I added some details to sculpt more parts like fingers, inner mouth, teeth and entry/plug…

Got my 5 stars, this is a cool bunch of work. I really dig your Evangelion stuff. Your interpretation of Eva seems to be more organic than the usual robot models. Great enhancements after the retopo. I like the new fingers and the lettering on the arm. Continue the good work :+1: !

Looks fantastic. My only comment is that its sometimes difficult to tell where the mechanical stuff ends and the organic stuff begins. It reads almost like he’s fused with the suite vs a creature wearing a distinct armor plated suite. This may be your intent. I wouldn’t say it’s a bad thing at all.

I’m curious to see what tricks you use to give it a sense of scale in your final render.

dustinbrown, thanks!, well about you question, I thought in a organic giant creature wearing a armor suit, but all the stuff are covered by a coat of some resistant plastic , because that, in some parts the mechanics parts are very visible and other parts reveal the underlying organic body.
