I totally feel where you are coming from and that is why i had to correct it,
being black from NY, around my white friends I crack black jokes all the time,
cause i know they want to do it… but they dont do it cause they think I met get offended so at the end of the day everybody laughs…

and it know it sounds cliche, but its really dark as in darkness, i was in a very dark period of my life when i made the art persona of The Dark Devinci, but everybody liked it… so i kept it… it is ironic that i am dark skinned though… point for you…

hey, cherub… do you remember that monster sculpt that was on top row over a year ago… the creature that was essentially a giant ***** and vagina mixed, chained to a rock? it was called reproductor. for everyone who thinks this sculpt was out of line… search key word reproductor… top row people. top row.

really… this isnt a kids site… or even a comercial site… its a sculpters forum. i remember in college back in the day, the teachers brought in this nude lady for all the students to draw… and by golly, she had a vagina! then they brought in some naked guy and he had a *****. its all good people. the only question we should be asking ourselves is, “did cherub sculpt a good vagina” and i say yes! a very good one. grats mate.

I actually took a look at the sculpt you was talking about… lmao… nuff said bruh… and that was on top row…! Yeah Cherub is def in the clear with this Paris Hilton coming out of a limo 'esque sculpt…

I’m with Julian_K on this. gore and violence is perfectly fine, but a natural part of the body is going too far? it doesn’t make sense, but in the US this has always seemed to be the case.

cherub_rock - does your thread always go off on tangents like this? your piece reminded me of this Rodin piece at first glance. i think a lot of people are uncomfortable with it; it feels a bit sexual, but that’s not why i like it. anyway, did you have reference for that piece? some parts of the anatomy seemed off to me.

mjolnir, yes I do remember the Reproductor, it's my favorite Zbrush piece by my favorite Zbrush artist :) As for the nude drawing classes, I had them for eight years, and I confirm everyone had their things hehe. Thanks for your support! dpeteuil thanks for you comment! I did have a reference, but it was a speed sculpt (some 2-3 hrs) and I've tried to do it to capture the moment. But you're absoulutely right on account of anatomy, and I see it now as well. Lesson learned I guess :) Thanks for that rodin's sculpt, didn't see it before I always fel a connection to his works. Hey cherub_rock, I was surprised to see the latest pic having disappeared!

Personally I think there’s no excuse for censorship, especially something as natural as the human body.

There’s an awful lot of hypocrisy in this world my friend, and I’m afraid that will not change any time soon.

Hey, yes there is but there obviously must be a better way to go about it than to fight. I don’t think good can come out of bad. So I’m forever in search of ways of putting normal things in their normal places :slight_smile:

Edit - I also think that this is an awesome sculpt. Even though it has nudity. I don’t
find it offensive, because it’s not overly perverse. There is a certain line
though that can get crossed depending on how far you take the abstract to the
real. For example, this , the rape of the sabine woman. It is within the realms of abstract.
Imagine if there were a sculpt that came on here that was more realistic. It
would be extremely controversial. Borders would be crossed between art and
fascination.

I missed the Paris Hilton sculpt and its not on Carbon Made. I’m sure she
would like the free publicity or I could be totally wrong. :lol:

You’re absolutely right, of course, but what I am failing to see is what was so offensive or wrong about your sculpt that you felt you had to take it down to avoid a fight.
I’d be the first to react if people started showing pornographic sculpts, but your sculpt definitely didn’t fall into that category IMO.
Anyway, don’t want to hijack your thread any further …

sex is a powerful thing. and in alot of cases a very beautiful thing. the zbrush community is home to artists all over the world. and the u.s. is one of the very few countries that has such an issue with sex. i dont think its fair that our views are imposed on an international sculpting forum. especially one of such high estime as zbrush central. its not the subject matter… its the skill in which it took to produce the material… and the composition and design of said work. and in my opinion, shame on anyone who tries to sencor someone elses piece. if your offended by the material, dont look at it.

I think u misunderstood my message.
What i wrote was, avoid suggestive poses. As early as the second sentence i wrote, porn or not which says much. Not once did I say avoid showing any parts of a body. Key words being ‘avoid suggestive poses’. Presentation is a form of art in itself.

I don’t want to categorise what is or isn’t porn. Suggestive poses and vagina have some links but how u present it can go either way.

My suggestion to cherub was to avoid suggestive poses since obviously many such as u interpret things in a rush of blood.

Read, analyse, then reply.

No, I didn’t misunderstand your message and I did read it carefully. I made mine probably not clear enough in regard to yours though.
I simply don’t think that the image was reason enough that cherub should be advised how to pose his model, unless it is technical or purely artistic criticism. especially since it was a rough and rather sketchy work at that stage and too early to judge what a possible end result will and wants to communicate. so far it was simply a blurry but visble vulva and a maybe slightly provokative or sensual pose, but far from really crossing hardcore borders.
I particularly don’t agree with you using the term ‘avoid’, because I really don’t think an artists should care too much about avoiding anything that could maybe possibly offend somebody else. that sort of pre self censoring isn’t exactly a very creative approach. the main question should be what one wants to express and not what to avoid.

I got a girl in my room right now posing the same way… and she told me t put down the tablet… lol!!!

This is a serious debate i see… so to make it even, i think we should all sculpt naked people… and then photoshop all our images together… lol, i love fridays… :smiley:
